I chose Emma Darling Cushman because I liked her story. I admire how she put other people before herself and was brave enough to save many kids from the Armenian Genocide.
Emma was selfless because she didn't care what happened to her, she just wanted to save the kids, and she persevered. There were people who were against what she was doing, and she still worked to save others.
My vision for my artwork was to make a little hospital building, because that was one of the places she would take the children to safety. On the outside of the hospital, I put a collage of Emma, and on the inside I created a model of kids with Emma standing in the corner of the room. My artwork represents how she took charge and did something to protect the kids, who could have been killed or orphaned. I am inspired by how she went out of her way to save them, when she could have stayed quiet and not have done anything.
I hope that other people can be inspired by her like I was when they see my artwork.
