I chose Pavel Weiner because I am interested in World War II and I am inspired by what he did. He never gave up and kept doing something that could have gotten him killed. Pavel Weiner was a Holocaust survivor who helped to create magazines, one of which was called Vedem which means “We Are in the Lead” in Czech. Pavel Weiner contributed to show how violent and bad the Holocaust was. He possessed the character trait of bravery and never gave up.
Pavel Weiner made the magazine with some other Jewish kids who were all in a little cramped room in the Terezin ghetto, where sickness spread quickly. In the magazine they drew pictures of what it looked like in the concentration camps. This was dangerous because if the Nazis caught them smuggling these magazines they would be killed. The magazine makes an impact on people now because it shows how brutal the holocaust was.
My idea was to create my own magazine that shows little snippets of how the Terezin ghetto was for Pavel and his friends. It shows how brave Pavel actually was. I used pictures of some key drawings in the magazines that were actually made by the children.
Learning Pavel Weiner’s story will influence me to be more brave. My hope is that people recognize the impact that only a couple boys made by creating their magazines.
