My name is Jordan and my Unsung Hero is Dion Diamond. I chose him because he helped to make people's skin color not define who they are. He worked to make it so that everyone has the same rights and to make life for everyone fair.
Dion Diamond has wisdom, selflessness, and courage, and he needed all of these traits to be able to go and help protest during the Civil Rights Movement. When Dion was younger, he got tired of looking at all the places he couldn't go because they were for white people only, so when he got older he sat in a white-only cafe and refused to leave even when a worker told him to. He only left when they called the police.
In my drawing, Dion is in a cafe getting pointed and stared at, but still refusing to leave, which you need to have courage to do. I created this illustration in pencil. I think learning about Dion’s story will influence my actions and outlook on life because he stood up for what is right even when it was hard to do. I hope this project will influence others to do the same thing too.
