I chose Jane Kendeigh because I found it interesting how she was one of the first women to step foot on a WWII battlefield while soldiers were shooting everywhere. What I most admire about Jane Kendeigh is how brave and courageous she was, because she would put others' lives before her own. Her character traits are courageous, brave, hardworking, and kind, and her area of expertise is nursing.
Jane Kendeigh graduated from the US Navy's School of Air Evacuation. After she graduated, she trained for crash procedures, field survival, and how to treat injured patients in high altitudes. Jane Kendeigh made a positive change and an impact on the lives of others because she saved soldiers that were severely injured. She either airlifted them to the nearest hospital or, depending on their state of injury, she and other nurses would perform emergency surgery. At the end of the war, more than 1,176,000 military patients had been evacuated on U.S flights, and only 46 died en route thanks to the skill and dedication of flight nurses like Jane.
The vision behind my piece shows what it was like during WWll, and how dangerous it was to just even be outside because of all the planes and ships with bombs. My art shows how Jane Kendeigh survived what was happening while she was saving patients. She was probably scared that she would die herself, but she chose to keep going and put others' lives before hers.
I colored everything behind Jane dark because I wanted to show how dark and scary it was, and I chose to portray her in color because she was always brave and a positive person. I added color to make her stand out and show that she helped many injured soldiers during the war. I drew Jane Kendeigh in her Navy uniform because that was an important part of who she was. I wanted my drawing to show where she was and how it looked during WWll. I also wanted to show why she should be remembered.
Jane Kendeigh's story shows how important it is to help others, even when things are hard. She cared for injured soldiers during the war and did her job on planes near battle zones. Learning about her makes me think about how I can help others. I want others to learn about her and what she did.
