Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct

Parent/Guardian’s Code of Conduct

As a parent/guardian of a player/participant in any activity held by or under the auspices of Arroyo Grande Water Polo Club, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event:

  • Go over the Player’s Code of Conduct with your child.
  • Encourage your child to arrive in a timely manner for all practices and events.
  • Promptly pay all membership and event fees when they are due.
  • Remember that your child participates in sport for their own enjoyment, not yours.
  • Refrain from coaching or instructing your athletes during practices and games; leave that to the coach on deck as it may be confusing for them to focus on more than one voice.
  • If there is a situation regarding the safety of any athlete, you have a duty to be verbal immediately and to report this to the coach in a timely manner for the safety of any child.
  • Never approach or speak with officials or opposing coaches; leave that to your coach.
  • Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than winning or losing.
  • Never ridicule or yell at your child and other children for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  • Show appreciation for good performance and skillful plays by all players (including opposing players).
  • Respect officials’ decisions and teach children to do likewise.
  • Do not physically or verbally abuse anyone associated with the sport (player, coach, umpire etc).
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  • Support your club either as a volunteer or paid volunteer. This may include activities such as, but not limited to, assistant at the score tables, advertising for the club or events, assisting with securing sponsors for the club, assisting with the development and/or coordination of events or event programs (e.g., event set up or tear down), and promoting the club within the community. In addition, the family of each Vanguard athlete (parent/guardian or other family member) is responsible for signing up and completing a snack bar shift at each event hosted by the club (whether your athlete is participating or not).
  • Report any concerns you have regarding your child, someone else’s, or any actions by anyone within the club or outside that could either be a safety issue or something that might bring the club’s name into disrepute.
