A soundmap of the park and playground we went to. Circle size is relative to the volume of the subject from the camera.Â
We spent the afternoon at a local park and I took a few short recordings while we played. Considering how many layers of sound are consistently present, I settled on 20 seconds for scenic shots, 5 second actions shots, and a ridiculous amount of editing.
The park is on a main roadway, so there's plenty of traffic noise. I tried to film around the larger trucks but applying the deHummer effect muted it well enough. There's two large ponds with fountains, and all of the wildlife you would typically find near them. I copied a sound bite of the birds and the fountain, and applied them throughout the video when the originals were drowned in noise. There were two strikes to the ball that can be heard in the clips, but I actually copied a sound bite from one and layered it over the other. In the clips a few kids are also audible, so I used the equalizer on that snippet. The crossfade was applied to nearly every clip to blend the various sound bites. Both the first and last clips had an exponential crossfade to give the audio a smoother start and stop. I also used the video and added 2 transitions for fun.
