of the Mummy 1999
The Mummy was a pop culture icon with mixed reviews, but you can't deny it had a certain kind of charm. Nearly every scene had a symmetry and rhythm. The architecture and environment features even and parallel lines, while the actors are positioned in such a way that they create surface divisions and movement of the viewers eye toward a focal point.
The movie frequently uses converging and leading lines to emphasize characters or frame a large group. This is typically seen in the architecture of the city or the tombs, but there are a few notable moments where sand peaks or characters are used instead.
The scenes transition between cluttered interiors and vast open spaces. To create depth in the two-dimensional screens, shapes are layered to create distinct levels. Often the actors are placed on different horizontal levels, or are positioned on the same level but in different shapes. When a background character speaks the characters in the foreground are often out of focus, but this can't be maintained without losing that sense of space.
In order to distinguish characters that influence the narrative, the movie's background characters lack details and bright colors. Though there are a few outfit changes, you'll notice that the main characters wear nearly all beige or black. The other characters wear mostly neutral clothing(most often in shades of green, oddly enough). This duller tone is consistent in many of the characters and locations throughout the movie.
