This week I began learning Maya. Using a real object as reference, I shaped a rectangle for the Magikarp's body. The fins were created by selecting 'faces' on the perimeter and extruding them, then adding divisions for sculpting. A lot of sculpting. The eye sockets and mouth are four 'faces' shift-selected and extruded- it creates that little dip with a rim. The whiskers were made with curves, and I added two spheres for the eyes; merging them all with the original polygon. The surfaces/colors took a while to sort out, and the fins never did show the color during render. I'm sure I could apply a rig or use paint, but I think I've spent long enough playing with my first ever polygon.Â
