Public intervention: United for Ukraine/ Unidos por Ucrania

As part of the Algeciras Open studios 2022, I made a public intervention in Algeciras city centre main public square (Plaza Alta) during Palm Sunday 10th April 2022. At 5pm people from the public were encouraged to participate in this act of solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are suffering a terrible war with the invasion of Russia.

People were asked to hold a rope in a circle of unity and then four poems were recited. During the first poem the people listened in silence and during the second and third poem they started to walk towards the centre of the circle, getting entangled with each other with the rope, to a point where they could not move anymore. This represented the Russian oppression. Once they could not move the last Poem was read. The selection of Spanish and Ukrainian Poems painted a visual picture of what is happening in the war in Ukraine and how we could have a peaceful ideal world if politicians became pacifists (Gloria Fuentes)
