Born in Gibraltar Alan Perez studied Fine Art at the Edinburgh College of Art and over the years he has always experimented with different artistic disciplines and collaborated in projects of a social, historical or political value. He is interested in Installation art and other forms of experimental art which help to develop his work in a meaningful and creative way.
Art for him is an internal necessity which is channelled through a continuous need to develop self-expression. As an artist he feels he has a social responsibility to sensitise our society through his art, as Art can be the voice of social conscience through freedom of expression.
Every day news, social, historical and political issues are directly the sources which influence his work. Alan likes to use people as an artistic tool, to directly collaborate in different ways in his projects. Sometimes the people can become the Art themselves and other times they will produce the work through an organic collaboration which forms part of the process of the work itself.
He is always interested in collaborative artistic projects with people of different creative, social and cultural backgrounds in order to create meaningful Art with critical social value. He has been invited to Art residencies and developed projects in Gibraltar, Berlin, Jersey, Spain, London and Edinburgh.

Selected by the Jersey Arts Trust to represent Gibraltar at the 2015 Inter Island Artist Locki-in Residency.

July-2016 Gibraltar- Berlin Artist Exchange Residency at the Lichtenberg Studios. All projects were interventions in public spaces in the district of Lichtenburg.
January-2017 Artist Residency- London at the Southbank Centre. Nordic Matters- Collision residency.
11 Nordic artists were selected to participate in this project and they worked with 11 UK artists in a collaborative artistic and creative process. Mr Perez was invited to be one of the 11 selected UK artists represented Gibraltar internationally in this project.
June 2019 Gibraltar Island Games 2019 Artist Residency
Artist from the participating Islands to the Gibraltar Island Games 2019 were invited to participate in a 2 week artist residency in Gibraltar. The spirit of the residency was to engage in collaborative projects in a multi disciplinary way, with a focus on the connections between the Islands both historically and socially.
October 2019 1st Art Conference/ Residency of Artists from the Campo de Gibraltar, ACTO.
The 1st Art Conference/ Residency of Artists from the Campo de Gibraltar which took place in la Vega Studios Tarifa during the weekend of the 18th October 2019 all works produced were all of an experimental nature. During the conference Judith Shaylor ran the workshop ¨Sensory Overload ¨. During the workshop the Artists were exposed to three especially chosen pieces of music accompanied with either a taste, smell or touch. After each round of music the Artists brainstormed their experiences in pairs and then went on to produce the works which where displayed in an exhibition.
