Memorias del Covid

This Installation consists of a series of 4 digital drawings done during the covid-19 pandemic years (2020 to 2021) and a final drawing done in December 2022. It is an autobiographical visual account of an emotional journey. The drawings are connected to a cinematic light box which has factual information on the Covid-19 related deaths worldwide (2020-2021) up to December 2022 and the total amount of Covid-19 related deaths in Gibraltar up to December 2022. It is influenced by the classical vintage American cinema light boxes advertising of film titles in the cinema facades. As if it was a film that has ended, but is still there, it references the experience of the new reality which has changed the world we live in. On a plinth you can see a Covid-19 vaccine bottle with my name and date of birth and beside it on a standing frame is the fourth self-portrait done after the end of the second Lockdown. I was influenced by memories from my childhood of neighbours who had prayer corners with Roman catholic statues and images of saints in their houses. The venerability of covid-19 and the daily bombardment of news of Covid-19 related deaths in the media, made me question religious faith and the importance of time as the essence of life.

Esta Instalación consta de una serie de 4 dibujos digitales realizados durante los años de la pandemia de covid-19 (2020 a 2021) y un dibujo final realizado en diciembre de 2022. Es un relato visual autobiográfico de un viaje emocional. Los dibujos están conectados a una caja de luz cinematográfica que tiene información objetiva sobre las muertes relacionadas con Covid-19 en todo el mundo (2020-2021) hasta diciembre de 2022 y la cantidad total de muertes relacionadas con Covid-19 en Gibraltar hasta diciembre de 2022. Está influenciado por las clásicas cajas de luz del cine americano vintage de publicidad de títulos de películas en las fachadas de los cines. Como si fuera una película que ha terminado, pero sigue ahí, hace referencia a la experiencia de la nueva realidad que ha cambiado el mundo en el que vivimos. En un pedestal se puede ver un frasco de vacuna Covid-19 con mi nombre y fecha de nacimiento y junto a él en un marco de pie está el cuarto autorretrato realizado después del final del segundo Confinamiento. Me influyeron los recuerdos de mi infancia de vecinos que tenían rincones de oración con estatuas católicas romanas e imágenes de santos en sus casas. La vulnerabilidad del covid-19 y el bombardeo diario de noticias de muertes relacionadas con el covid-19 en los medios, me hizo cuestionar la fe religiosa y la importancia del tiempo como esencia de la vida.
