This installation produced for the Kitchen Studios collective exhibition at La Galería Manolo Ales,La Linea de la Concepcion, Spain, titled El Patio is an autobiographical journey through childhood memories and the reality of the present day.

When they gave me the title for the collective exhibition 'EL Patio', the first thing I visualised were the clotheslines in the patio of the apartment block where I lived as a child.

I remember when my mother and the neighbours would get together to hang out the washing and talk about family, children, neighbour gossip and sometimes even international politics. The patio was another world where freedom and hope for a better life merged with everyday life problems.

In my Installation I recreate the typical patio clothesline and hang clothes from babies and young children, as a metaphor for innocence and the future of the new generations, which is stained by the dirty clothes of our society. 

On the garments are transferred photos taken from Gibraltar of the OS35 oil tanker that collided with another ship and is semi submerged aground in the eastern waters of the Rock. There are also photos of the refinery in the Campo de Gibraltar, the naval traffic in the port of Algeciras, and the bunkering in the Straits of Gibraltar that affects the environment of our region and our patios.

Through this installation I intend to send a message of awareness by fusing memories of the past with problems of the present to find solutions for a better future for all.

Esta instalación producida para la exposición colectiva de Kitchen Studios en La Galería Manolo Ales, La Linea de la Concepcion, Spain, titulada El Patio es un viaje autobiográfico a memorias di mi niñez y la cruda realidad del presente.

Cuando me dieron el título para la exposición colectiva ‘EL Patio’ lo primero que visualice fueron los tendederos en el patio del piso en el que vivía de pequeño. 

Recuerdo cuando mi madre y las vecinas se reunían para tender y hablar sobre la familia, los niños, los chismes de los vecinos y a veces incluso la política internacional. El patio era otro mundo adonde se vivía la libertad y esperanza de una vida mejor.

En mi Instalación recreo el típico tendedero de patio y tiendo ropas de bebes y niños pequeños, como una metáfora de inocencia y el futuro de las nuevas generaciones, que está manchado por las ropas sucias de nuestra sociedad. En las prendas están transferidas fotos tomadas desde Gibraltar del buque petrolero OS35 que chocó con otro buque y esta fondeado en las aguas del este del Peñón. La refinería en el campo de Gibraltar, él trafico naval del puerto de Algeciras, y bunkering en el estrecho de Gibraltar que afecta el medio ambiente de nuestra comarca y nuestros patios.

A través de esta instalación pretendo lanzar un mensaje de conciencia fusionando memorias del pasado con problemas del presente para buscar soluciones para un futuro mejor para todos.
