'PROLOGO A "EL CORRELATO DE MUNDO" DE ABDEL HERNANDEZ. (2019) (©por Alberto Mendez) ©2022
DEL "MUNDO DE VIDA" A SU CORRELATO TEXTUAL: ONTOGÉNESIS Y RADICALIDAD DE UN PENSAMIENTO. LA SOCIOLOGÍA FENOMENOLÓGICA DE ABDEL HERNANDEZ.
Cuando en el verano de 2022, Abdel Hernandez me compartió una copia digitalizada en documento Word de uno de sus últimos cuatro mas importantes libros, estaba absolutamente convencido, aún sin haber leido una sola linea del texto, que me enfrentaba a un libro de carácter crucial para el ámbito de la reflexión fenomenológica del siglo XXI. Este prólogo fue el resultado de esa lectura luego de intercambiar reflexiones a lo largo de una extensa conversación prolongada por espacio de un año en la que le propuse a Abdel la publicación de El correlato de mundo, titulo con el que el autor resumia la tesis escencial de su libro.
1) La génesis de un mundo: sus inicios.
El pensamiento académico y filosofico cubano de la segunda mitad del siglo XX (Lourdes Rensoli, Jorge Villate, Jorge Luis Acanda, Fernando Martínez, Pedro Luis Sotolongo, Eduardo Dominic, el recientemente fallecido Emilio Ichikawa, Paul Ravelo) aunque restringido mayoritariamente al campo historiográfico marxista (Moreno Fraginals, Eduardo Torres-Cuevas, Ana Cairo, Fernando Martínez, por ejemplo) y no marxista (Rafael Rojas y el propio Emilio Ichikawa) o mas bien consagrado al pensamiento contemporáneo (Paul Ravelo, el propio Emilio Ichikawa) desde el enfoque posestructuralista no ha conocido fuera de ese, sin dudas, aunque auténtico, marco estrecho del pensamiento nacional, una voz transdisciplinaria mas exclusiva y excepcional, desde dentro y mas allá del mainstream académico, por su profundo rigor teórico y su carácter híbrido dadas sus influencias foráneas tanto de la Escuela de Frankfort, del estructuralismo y posestructuralismo francés y de la semiótica y la antropología posmoderna norteamericana como la voz propia con su singularidad metateórica, la que y desde donde, discursa y se desplaza la obra de Abdel Hernández San Juan (La Habana, 1968), despejada distintivamente en La Habana de fines del siglo XX y desarrollada en toda su amplitud mas allá de sus fronteras nacionales en Estados Unidos como parte de la propia academia norteamericana ya sea como antropólogo investigador invitado de Lake Forest College (faculty of sociology and anthropology), presente como ponente en el Congreso de Antropología de Chicago o como profesor investigador asociado (complementary research asociate) en Rice University, anthropology faculty en Houston, Texas.
El pensamiento teórico de Abdel Hernandez despuntó a fines de los años 80 en La Habana, Cuba, como una de las voces teóricas mas jóvenes de la antropología visual y urbana y de la critica de arte conceptualista y posconceptualista siendo fundador con solo veinte años de la primera escuela incidental y alternativa de ecoculturología práctica y empirica para jóvenes artistas y creadores noveles de las artes visuales dando impulso a la vez, a nuevos modos del pensar metateórico que le convalidarían un lugar indiscutible en el mundo cultural cubano antes de iniciar su gran periplo por el continente partiendo desde Cuba rumbo a Venezuela al frente de una exposición itinerante de jóvenes artistas plasticos cubanos y luego como antropólogo cultural investigando los mercados populares en Venezuela y mas tarde desde allí hacia Estados Unidos donde residiria por muchos años hasta formar parte activa de la vida académica y cultural de Houston, Texas como fenomenólogo y antropólogo cultural.
El rigor conceptual de Hernandez se ha desplegado desde su temprana juventud y durante décadas en distintos campos de las ciencias sociales que discurren y se interconectan y que disputan un lugar indiscutible en la epistemología, la sociología, la fenomenología, la hermenéutica, la antropología, la estética y la semiótica concentrándose con mayor énfasis en los subcampos de la etnometodología, la ética, la teoria de la performatividad, la teoria y la critica de arte y la culturología.
Desde esas zonas de permanencia metateórica Hernández ha ensayado multiples indagaciones de índole epistemológica y a su vez ha trabajado con esfuerzo y entrega dedicada al desarrollo de su pensamiento en varias plazas de nuestro continente (La Habana, Caracas, Monterrey, Texas, Chicago, New York), contribuyendo a extender, entrecruzar, robustecer y sobreimbricar los campos de trabajo con propuestas, aún en su mayor parte inéditas, serias, rigurosas y con singular especificidad, orgánicas y sistémicas.
La obra fenomenológica de Abdel Hernandez no despega en Cuba que es su lugar de origen natural, cultural e intelectual sino como dije arriba primero en Venezuela y luego en Estados Unidos, lugar éste último, definitorio en su trabajo autoral posterior y toda su obra filosofica escrita retroactivamente en un estado de reflexión constante y rigurosa, sistémica y sistematicista, que se da a la tarea de reconstruir metódica y metodológicamente ya de regreso transitorio en Cuba todo su recorrido teórico como fenomenólogo y etnometodólogo en experimentos antropológicos desarrollados en la Rice University de Texas en Estados Unidos donde detentaba su lugar como investigador complementario asociado al departamento de sociologia y antropología. Abdel Hernandez se desarrolló como joven investigador entonces y como profesor invitado también y pionero junto a Stephen A Tyler del nuevo giro o corriente renovadora que adquiere el movimiento de antropología posmoderna surgido en el departamento de antropología de la Rice University a fines de los años 90's.
El pensamiento filosófico de Hernandez se ha construido de forma sistemática sobre un enorme edificio teórico, que de inspiración sistémica y fenomenológica Hernández se basa consciente y consistentemente en la importancia de la "transdisciplinariedad" como instancia metodológica y procedimental y constatando y registrando su impacto en los distintos experimentos teóricos desde los resultados concretos del ejercicio teorético inspirados en aspectos sociológicos de la obra de Max Weber, Pierre Bourdieu, y mas recientemente en los aspectos fenomenológicos de la sociología etnometodológica de Alfred Schütz, la sociologia de Herbert Georg Mead, la hermenéutica de Gadamer, y la semiótica de Charles S. Peirce.
El trabajo de Hernández semeja el ejercicio de experimentos teóricos que van desde los metálogos de Gregory Bateson por ejemplo, hasta los informes de los trabajos de campo de Clifford Geertz y especialmente con mayor énfasis los aciertos teóricos de la antropología posmoderna de Stephen Tyler, a cuya discusión ha sometido Hernández a contrapelo su propia investigación científica, antropológica, etnometodológica y epistemológica contribuyendo asi a su desarrollo en el campo de la semiótica, la hermenéutica y la fenomenología sociológica bajo la influencia de la escuela del sociólogo austriaco Alfred Schütz.
Abdel Hernández comenzó a sedimentar sus bases teóricas sobre una solida formación integral que comenzó en la segunda mitad de la década de los 80's del pasado siglo con sus estudios de bellas artes en la Academia de San Alejandro en La Habana, Cuba, donde investigó y experimentó sobre los efectos sociales, antropológicos y sociológicos de la estética en la antropología urbana y visual y sobre la influencia de las vanguardias artisticas del siglo XX y la posvanguardia norteamericana en el performance y el joven arte cubano de entonces.
Hernández continuó asi su desarrollo profesional e intelectual en Caracas, Venezuela, durante la década de los 90's concentrándose en estudios de ciencias sociales en instituciones docentes venezolanas y desarrollando su propio trabajo teórico como critico de arte e investigador.
Sus estudios y trabajos de campo de antropología urbana continuaron a fines de la década de los 90's cuando Hernandez emigró hacia Estados Unidos estableciéndose en Houston, Texas, donde continuó sus investigaciones de antropología y sociologia en la Rice University y donde desarrolló sus experimentos etnometodológicos compartiendo su tiempo entre la docencia y la investigación y ampliando asi los contenidos y objetivos de toda su investigación científica desde una perspectiva autorreflexiva.
Si en sus inicios Hernández se habia concentrado mas en el estudio del pensamiento francés en general y muy en particular en la obra de Lévi-Strauss, Foucault, Baudrillard y Lyotard especialmente la sociologia de Pierre Bourdieu y su aplicación en su propia indagación científico-social, Hernandez también se habia interesado en los estudios de filosofia de la cultura de los teóricos de la Escuela de Frankfurt a partir de cuyos resultados se habia entregado asi a una disputa teórica sobre la recepcion estética de las vanguardias artisticas europeas y los efectos de la posvanguardia norteamericana en la revolución posmoderna del arte cubano posconceptualista mas joven y donde el propio Hernández se habia interesado con especial énfasis en la reflexión teórica sobre el conceptualismo y el posmodernismo a través de la reflexion critica de la estética, del debate marxista, de la teoria de la cultura, y la sociología del arte (Jameson) la sociologia del conocimiento (Bourdieu) y la semiótica (Greimas, Eco, Todorov, Kristeva).
Más tarde, el propio Hernández trascendería los limites de su propia indagación sociológica del arte para investigar mas allá de éste campo hacia otros campos afines de las ciencias sociales, como los postulados fundamentales de la semiótica de Charles Sanders Pierce, además de la sociología fenomenológica de Alfred Schütz o la metodología de la acción comunicativa en la filosofía critica de la teoría de la performatividad de Jürgen Habermas, una de las últimas y mas prominentes voces de la Escuela de Frankfurt que mas determinantemente influyó en el pensamiento de Hernández además de su enorme deuda con la filosofia de la lógica de Hegel, han ido sentando las bases de su actual investigación fenomenológica y hermenéutica.
Fue de este modo que Hernández después de emigrar a Venezuela y transcurriendo en paralelo a su carrera profesional de investigador y critico de arte, comenzó una lectura y estudio contínuo, acusioso y sistemático de la sociologia fenomenológica de Alfred Schütz, de la teoría crítica, performativa y sociológica de Jürgen Habermas, del estudio del interaccionismo simbólico de H.G.Mead, de la critica literaria, semiótica y antropológica de Tzvetan Todorov, de la hermenéutica de Gadamer y la gramatología y lingüística posestructuralista de Jacques Derrida y muy en especial de la semiótica de Charles Sanders Peirce siendo influido directamente por momentos y desarrollos epistemológicos de algunas de las obras medulares de esta constelación de autores.
Pero su lectura no ha sido realizada acriticamente, sino reflexivamente, y mas bien inspirándose metodológicamente en los aciertos teóricos del sociólogo francés Pierre Bourdieu, por cuanto cada texto de Hernández es un momento de subjetivación particular, de hecho, singular, de cada uno de los conceptos moleculares derivados del ejercicio exegético de los textos, resituados éstos, en discusión dialéctica con sus propios presupuestos teóricos y sistematizados en un nuevo organismo teórico.
Con estas bases Hernández se planteó una indagación nueva desde el punto de vista de la fenomenología hermenéutica de Schütz y la semiótica de Peirce durante su vida en Estados Unidos. Ya establecido en Texas, su obra absorbió la influencia del ambiente académico norteamericano desde su punto de vista en el enfoque pragmático del "mundo de vida" fenomenológico en cuanto a su carácter intersubjetivo y performativo; y desde el punto de vista pragmático también en el sentido del uso semiótico del signo, del ícono y de la función semiótica del "interpretante" en un escenario de "mundo de vida" de carácter pragmático-performativo y de praxis procedimental de metodología de "research" tal como el propio Abdel Hernandez ha definido su sistema.
En la obra autoral de Hernandez una vez influido por su descubrimiento de la obra semiótica del filósofo pragmatista norteamericano Charles S. Peirce a quien leyó con fruición en sus tiempos como inmigrante en Estados Unidos y como investigador en la Rice University de houston, Texas, se puede destacar su adaptación a su vez a un entorno privilegiado de auténtico alcance académico y a una cultura y un ecosistema intelectuales completamente distintos en donde con especial dedicación la antropología posmoderna de Stephen Tyler y la semiótica de Peirce ocupaban el centro de sus preocupaciones llegando Hernandez a convertirse desde su nuevo modo de enfoque etnometodológico en uno de los protagonistas de la escuela de antropología posmoderna de Houston lidereada principalmente por el trabajo de Stephen Tyler. Se destaca en esta época el intercambio intelectual a nivel metateórico entre Abdel Hernandez y Stephen Tyler en torno al concepto de "evocación" mas allá del cual, además de colega, Tyler fue también cofundador de la escuela de antropología posmoderna de Houston, Texas y amigo personal de Hernandez.
Juntos fueron los protagonistas de ese movimiento de pensamiento posmoderno contemporáneo norteamericano de fenomenología y etnometodología dentro de la sociología como tal en intenso diálogo y a través de discusiones teóricas de metodología de la investigación (research methodology) con Stephen A. Tyler y Quetzil Eugenio Castañeda.
Abdel Hernandez fue además cofundador junto a Surpik Angelini de la "Fundación Transart de Houston" para la investigación teórica del arte y de la investigación antropológica en general asi como director artístico de esa fundación desde 1997 hasta el año 2002.
En Texas, Abdel Hernández restableció su Escuela libre de Estudios Avanzados en Ciencias duras y el Centro de Investigaciones Fenomenologicas donde enseñó filosofia, ciencias del lenguaje y sociología.
Por su parte, su amigo y colega Stephen Tyler, introdujo a Abdel en el plano de la "media voz" en la reflexión teórica de Derrida mientras Abdel desarrolló la antropologia posmoderna en fusión con la sociología fenomenológica de Alfred Schütz y la teoria semiótica de los interpretantes de Peirce. Hernández tiene el merito de haber sido pionero en su nueva interpretación de Derrida, lo que supuso distinguirlo respecto de la teoría de las "pasarelas" aisladas por Hernandez dentro de los desarrollos fenomenológico-hegelianos de la reflexion lingüística de aquél en la dualidad saussureana del signo lingüístico, a saber entre el significante y el significado y entre el adentro y el afuera del lenguaje donde una "texere" hace las veces de pasarela del no lenguaje al lenguaje.
Para Abdel, el pensamiento fenomenológico de Derrida es el responsable de una reflexion metateorética desde la propia fenomenología hasta mas allá del estructuralismo en ese limbo desde donde piensa Hernández con Derrida y donde el espacio prelingüístico ya prefigura de algún modo la introducción del lenguaje, la fabricacion sémica del signo, su horizonte de posibilidades en el sentido que discutiendo a Peirce, Hernández va a imprimir a las tesis desarrollada en éste libro que aqui prologamos. Ésta es, antes bien, la singularidad teórica, su aporte teórico lingüístico (el de Hernandez) a través de su análisis de la obra de Derrida.
Durante la etapa americana de Hernandez de 1997 hasta el 2007 aproximadamente se destaca también en esos diez años transcurridos durante ese periodo, su hallazgo de la obra del filósofo analitico y fenomenólogo norteamericano John Searle, así como la profundización en la lectura de la fenomenología hermenéutica del "mundo de vida" de Alfred Schütz, cuya obra ya Hernández conocía desde su etapa profesional en Caracas cuando se enfrentó por primera vez a los escritos sociologicos de Schütz, a su sociologia fenomenológica propiamente dicha, de cuya influencia Hernandez es deudor y a la que añadirá su interpretación personal siendo Schütz una de sus principales fuentes de inspiración tras la influencia de la semiótica de Peirce a la que llega influido por el pensamiento de Habermas.
A partir de estas premisas se produjo un giro particular en la investigación científica de Hernández sumergiéndose así en una indagación exegética acerca de la función del "interpretante" en la semiótica de Peirce, una lectura e investigación de los "actos de habla" de Searle y los problemas de intersubjetividad, performatividad y pragmática de los "mundos de vida" en Habermas que influyeron decisivamente en el desarrollo de nuevos derroteros en sus primeros libros de lingüística y fenomenología como El presentacional lingüístico, Después de la etnometodología y Lo dado y lo no dado.
Hernandez comenzó a concentrarse aún más en su indagación hasta despejar consistentemente el nudo central de su investigación: la relación establecida entre la exegética y la pragmática performativa y entre ésta y su relación fenomenológica con el ámbito de lo pre-dado, del sustrato pre-lingüístico fundamental del mundo de vida antes de la entrada lógica del lenguaje, de la palabra, en la gramática inicial pre-significada y de la función semiótica del signo y su funcion interpretante. Es en esa dirección que habrá de discurrir la reflexión del libro de Hernandez El correlato de mundo que aqui presentamos y hacia el cual nos proponemos introducir al lector.
2). Inmediatez del "mundo de vida" y "correlato de mundo" análisis de las
sobreordinaciones. Fenomenología y hermenéutica.
De la fenomenología a la etnometodología.
En la segunda parte de nuestro libro a dos manos actualmente en proceso de publicación todavía inédito titulado Contrapuntos y que es el resultado de nuestro diálogo y debate continuado desde el verano de 2022 hasta el primer trimestre de 2023 a traves de nuestra correspondencia Hernández en su interés por explicarme la tesis central de su trabajo sobre la teoria de las pasarelas, totalmente inédito en su lectura fenomenológica de Derrida y la preocupación fundamental que lo llevó a estos niveles de complejidad en la indagación fenomenológica de su libro autoral El correlato de mundo me comentaba :
"Es el problema muy teorico de la relacion adentro/afuera del lenguaje, cuando estamos adentro del lenguaje y cuando afuera del lenguaje, las pasarelas serian pues asi entre el lenguaje y el no lenguaje, entre el mundo y el texto, entre el horizonte intramundano y las sobreordinaciones supradiscursivas, entre la realidad y lo simbolico.[...]"
Esa preocupación fundamental fue nuestro punto de convergencia. De manera que mi acercamiento a la obra de Abdel Hernandez y en especial a lo que constituye lo que yo llamaría el núcleo medular de su obra en lo que son sus cuatro principales y últimos libros sobre el fundamento teórico que nos convoca en estas lineas son La elucidación semántica, El correlato de mundo, Pensando ciencia, y Repensando la intertextualidad a cuyos títulos me atrevería añadir dos libros más El horizonte intramundano y Los enigmas del "ground", éste último todavía inconcluso sobre el que su autor aún se encuentra trabajando, y del que he podido leer únicamente el primer capitulo, se explica en un interés, cada vez mas creciente de parte del propio autor por destacar en su obra, que y, antes bien, explicitar la relación del sujeto con la exégesis textual que por medio del mecanismo de la interpretación hace del texto el correlato del mundo, esto es, mundo del texto tal como ha sido pensado ontológicamente por la tradición hermenéutica y en consecuencia recreación fenomenológica de aquél "mundo" a través de su propia interpretación semiótica, su exégesis textual y en consecuencia su indagación etnometodológica.
En está dirección podemos recortar un fragmento emblemático a cuyos desarrollos se consagrará Abdel a través de los capitulos de éste libro y a cuyas páginas se entregará el lector como sujeto activo en ese proceso de interpretación:
"[...] el correlato de mundo, como hemos discutido, se mantiene en el orden de las relaciones entre el texto y los mundos sean estos mundos de realidad o lo sean de ficción y las relaciones al mundo que es correlato del texto como hemos discutido en otra parte trabajan solo en la medida en que el correlato facilita movernos entre las pasarelas a nivel fenomenológico de las relaciones entre el mundo en sí y el mundo Fenomenico (Hegel), entre el mundo de vida en su inmediatez de mundo pragmático y el mundo de los símbolos o las simbolizaciones [...]"
Este es en escencia el proyecto metodológico y la perspectiva epistemológica que defiende Abdel en éste libro. Sin embargo, en escencia y mas que nada lo que motiva mi acercamiento a la obra de Hernández obedece a un interés convergente con su propia pesquiza de las relaciones del pensar interpretativo y reflexivo con el mundo, mundo fenoménico y mundo en sí tal como Abdel hace hablar a Hegel en su obra aunque desde luego mi interés inicial no ha partido obviamente de la interpretación que Abdel hace de Hegel por mi propia formación académica dentro del marco lógico empirista pospositivista anglosajón sino de la indagación del propio Hernandez en las relaciones del lenguaje con el mundo prelinguisticamente dado.
También mundo fenomenológico, y mundo de vida no solo en el sentido de Husserl sino en el sentido en que es retomado por Abdel a partir de su influencia de la sociología de Alfred Schütz y en el sentido en que además es puesto a trabajar por el propio Hernandez a lo.largo de su obra a partir de Habermas.
Por otra parte, me gustaria destacar que si bien la influencia indiscutible del psicoanálisis lingüístico que la obra de Jacques Lacan tuvo en mi propio desarrollo intelectual durante mis años de juventud en La Habana fue la base fundamental de mi posterior indagación epistemológica, e indiscutiblemente de mi encuentro posterior durante mis estudios universitarios de filosofia ya residiendo en Estados Unidos con la filosofia analitica pospositivista anglosajona y de mi posterior desarrollo profesional lo que representó un giro radical que terminó por dar integración y cuerpo medular a mi reflexión epistemológica fue ese extenso recorrido por años desde entonces hasta hoy que va desde el estudio de las obras de Bertrand Russell, Whitehead, G.E.Moore, Wittgenstein y la escuela de empirismo lógico de Cambridge, pasando por Carnap, Karl Popper y el Circulo de Viena hasta W.V.Quine, Putnam, Davidson y los lógicos de Harvard por un lado y Alfred Ayer, Michael Dummett, Peter Strawson, John Searle y la filosofia lógica analitica del lenguaje natural de Oxford por otro. Fueron estas lecturas las que, accidentalmente, me fueron preparando ------al menos parcialmente------ para entender el trabajo teórico de Hernández. Si bien es cierto que aún teniendo recorridos teóricos distintos y fuentes de pensamiento también distintas aunque no por ello divergentes compartirnos un mismo interés por la reflexión metateórica del lenguaje que nos llevó a converger por tanto en una pasión común por el pensamiento abstracto y la indagación epistemológica.
3). Semiótica del texto. Fenomenología, hermenéutica e interpretación.
Desde luego que mi interés por el argumento metateórico, la abstracción del concepto, la indagación lingüística, hermenéutica y hasta epistemológica o bien científico-social y las expresiones lógicas de la representación y su indeterminación de la interpretación con cierta reminiscencia de la epistemología naturalizada y los resultados linguisticos de W.V.Quine me acercaron especialmente a la aspectos lingüísticos y de teoria del lenguaje presentes con rigor especial en la obra de Hernández y su influencia de la semiótica de Peirce tal vez por aquel criterio avanzado por George Steiner en Después de Babel de que "entender es traducir" con cierta reminiscencia pero no por ello reducible la obra de Hernández únicamente a sus aspectos lingüísticos sino que la obra del antropólogo, etnometodólogo y fenomenólogo cubanoamericano se desplaza hacia un mas allá de lo propiamente intramundano en un camino hacia la exégesis textual y la génesis del signo desde un más acá "intramundano" con itinerario propiamente fenomenológico.
Desde luego que, Hernandez, con el eje semiótico de El correlato de mundo no se propone una simple interpretación, sino, antes bien, la exégesis del recorrido de su pensamiento teórico en el momento mismo de la interpretación hermenéutica, la comprensión detallada de su "praxis teórica" en su propia "mundanidad", la indagación textual, y la evocación de un contexto de justificación lingüística y semiótica en los plexos del análisis interpretativo propiamente hermenéutico y exegético de éste a la altura de la cultura como texto. Es decir, que en este momento teórico de Hernandez se trata mas bien de su aproximación a la comprensión del problema de la cultura en la forma de una "texere" para el preambulo de una semiótica de la cultura.
El análisis semiotico de Hernández despega en el primer capitulo de éste libro una vez despejadas las primeras pasarelas con su reflexion teórica a partir de Derrida y prosigue en lo adelante a partir de lo que Peirce llamó una teoría de los interpretantes. Entender su edificio semiótico es primordial para comprender toda su elaboración lingüística y el paso de la reflexión fenomenológica de su libro anterior El horizonte intramundano hacia la interpretación hermenéutica desarrollada en éste libro que presentamos aquí al lector interesado en el pensamiento abstracto y la exégesis textual.
4). Dinámicas de la mundanidad hacia el texto y su interpretación.
Una de las características del tipo de enfoque etnometodológico, hermenéutico, semiótico y escencialmente fenomenológico de Hernández de indiscutible alcance global, holistico y al mismo tiempo de precisión medular es su concepción de "mundo", de "mundanidad" y de lo "Intramundano" no solo a partir de la reflexión sociológica de Weber que influyó determinantemente a Hernández sino también a partir de Husserl, o Schütz y que aportan a ésta reflexión fenomenológica un valor particular y central: su sentido pragmático del problema de la génesis del signo y la busqueda por medios exegéticos de una comprension fenomenológica, semiótica y hermenéutica de aquella intramundanidad de la que parte éste libro.

When in the summer of 2022, Abdel Hernandez shared with me a digitized copy in a Word document of one of his last four most important books, I was absolutely convinced, even without having read a single line of the text, that I was faced with a book of crucial character. for the field of phenomenological reflection of the 21st century. This prologue was the result of that reading after exchanging reflections throughout an extensive conversation lasting for a year in which I proposed to Abdel the publication of El correlato de mundo, the title with which the author summarized the essential thesis. from his book.

Hernandez's conceptual rigor has been deployed since his early youth and for decades in different fields of the social sciences that flow and interconnect and that dispute an indisputable place in epistemology, sociology, phenomenology, hermeneutics, anthropology, aesthetics and semiotics, concentrating with greater emphasis on the subfields of ethnomethodology, ethics, performativity theory, art theory and criticism, and culturology.
From these areas of metatheoretical permanence, Hernández has tested multiple epistemological inquiries and at the same time has worked with effort and dedication dedicated to the development of his thought in various places on our continent (Havana, Caracas, Monterrey, Texas, Chicago, New York). , contributing to extend, intertwine, strengthen and overlap the fields of work with proposals, still for the most part unpublished, serious, rigorous and with singular specificity, organic and systemic.
The phenomenological work of Abdel Hernandez does not take off in Cuba, which is his place of natural, cultural and intellectual origin, but as I said above, first in Venezuela and then in the United States, the latter place being defining in his later authorial work and all of his written philosophical work. retroactively in a state of constant and rigorous, systemic and systematic reflection, which is given to the task of methodically and methodologically reconstructing his entire theoretical journey as a phenomenologist and ethnomethodologist in anthropological experiments developed at Rice University in Texas after his temporary return to Cuba. Hernández's work resembles the exercise of theoretical experiments that range from the metalogues of Gregory Bateson, for example, to the fieldwork reports of Clifford Geertz and especially with greater emphasis the theoretical successes of the postmodern anthropology of Stephen Tyler, to whose discussion, Hernández has subjected his own scientific, anthropological, ethnomethodological and epistemological research against the grain, thus contributing to his development in the field of semiotics, hermeneutics and sociological phenomenology under the influence of the school of the Austrian sociologist Alfred Schütz.
Abdel Hernández began to lay down his theoretical bases on a solid comprehensive training that began in the second half of the 80's of the last century with his fine arts studies at the San Alejandro Academy in Havana, Cuba, where he researched and experimented. on the social, anthropological and sociological effects of aesthetics in urban and visual anthropology and on the influence of the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century and the North American post-avant-garde on performance and young Cuban art of that time.
Hernández thus continued his professional and intellectual development in Caracas, Venezuela, during the 90's, concentrating on social science studies in Venezuelan educational institutions and developing his own theoretical work as an art critic and researcher.
His studies and field work in urban anthropology continued at the end of the 90's when Hernandez emigrated to the United States, settling in Houston, Texas, where he continued his research in anthropology and sociology at Rice University and where he developed his ethnomethodological experiments sharing his time between teaching and research and thus expanding the contents and objectives of all their scientific research from a self-reflective perspective.
If in his beginnings Hernández had concentrated more on the study of French thought in general and very particularly on the work of Lévi-Strauss, Foucault, Baudrillard and Lyotard, especially the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and its application in his own scientific-social inquiry , Hernandez had also been interested in the studies of the philosophy of culture of the theorists of the Frankfurt School, based on whose results he had thus devoted himself to a theoretical dispute about the aesthetic reception of the European artistic avant-garde and the effects of the post-avant-garde. It was in this way that Hernández, after emigrating to Venezuela and running parallel to his professional career as an art researcher and critic, began a continuous, thorough and systematic reading and study of the phenomenological sociology of Alfred Schütz, of critical, performative theory. and sociology of Jürgen Habermas, of the study of symbolic interactionism of H.G. Mead, of the literary, semiotic and anthropological criticism of Tzvetan Todorov, of the hermeneutics of Gadamer and the post-structuralist grammatology and linguistics of Jacques Derrida and especially of the semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce being directly influenced by moments and epistemological developments of some of the core works of this constellation of authors.
But its reading has not been carried out uncritically, but rather reflexively, and rather methodologically inspired by the theoretical successes of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, since each text by Hernández is a moment of particular, in fact, singular, subjectivation of each of the molecular concepts derived from the exegetical exercise of the texts, these being resituated, in dialectical discussion with their own theoretical assumptions and systematized in a new theoretical organism.
With these bases, Hernández proposed a new investigation from the point of view of Schütz's hermeneutic phenomenology and Peirce's semiotics during his life in the United States. Already established in Texas, his work absorbed the influence of the North American academic environment from his point of view in the pragmatic approach to the phenomenological "lifeworld" in terms of its intersubjective and performative character; and from the pragmatic point of view also in the sense of the semiotic use of the sign, the icon and the semiotic function of the "interpretant" in a "lifeworld" scenario of a pragmatic-performative nature and of procedural praxis of methodology of " research" as Abdel Hernandez himself has defined his system.
In Hernandez's authorial work, once influenced by his discovery of the semiotic work of the North American pragmatist philosopher Charles S. Peirce, whom he read with relish in his time as an immigrant to the United States and as a researcher at Rice University in Houston, Texas, he One can highlight his adaptation in turn to a privileged environment of authentic academic scope and to a completely different culture and intellectual ecosystem where, with special dedication, the postmodern anthropology of Stephen Tyler and the semiotics of Peirce occupied the center of his concerns, leading Hernandez to become from his new mode of ethnomethodological approach in one of the protagonists of the Houston school of postmodern anthropology led mainly by the work of Stephen Tyler. In Texas, Abdel Hernández reestablished his Free School of Advanced Studies in Hard Sciences and the Center for Phenomenological Research where he taught philosophy, language sciences, and sociology.
For his part, his friend and colleague Stephen Tyler introduced Abdel to the level of the "middle voice" in Derrida's theoretical reflection while Abdel developed postmodern anthropology in fusion with the phenomenological sociology of Alfred Schütz and the semiotic theory of the interpreters of Peirce. Hernández has the merit of having been a pioneer in his new interpretation of Derrida, which meant distinguishing him from the theory of the "catwalks" isolated by Hernandez within the phenomenological-Hegelian developments of the former's linguistic reflection on the Saussurean duality of the sign. linguistic, namely between the signifier and the signified and between the inside and the outside of language where a "texere" acts as a gateway from non-language to language.

This is essentially the methodological project and epistemological perspective that Abdel defends in this book. However, in essence and more than anything, what motivates my approach to Hernández's work is due to a convergent interest with his own investigation of the relationships of interpretive and reflective thinking with the world, phenomenal world and world in itself, just as Abdel does. speak to Hegel in his work, although of course my initial interest has obviously not come from Abdel's interpretation of Hegel due to my own academic training within the Anglo-Saxon post-positivist empiricist logical framework but from Hernandez's own investigation into the relations of language with the prelinguistically given world.

Moore, Wittgenstein and the Cambridge school of logical empiricism, passing through Carnap, Karl Popper and the Vienna Circle to W.V. Quine, Putnam, Davidson and the logicians from Harvard on the one hand and Alfred Ayer, Michael Dummett, Peter Strawson, John Searle and the analytical logical philosophy of natural language from Oxford on the other. It was these readings that, accidentally, prepared me ------at least partially------ to understand Hernández's theoretical work. Although it is true that even though we have different theoretical paths and sources of thought that are also different, although not divergent, we share the same interest in the metatheoretical reflection of language that led us to converge, therefore, in a common passion for abstract thought and epistemological inquiry. .
3). Semiotics of the text. Phenomenology, hermeneutics and interpretation.
Of course, my interest in the metatheoretical argument, the abstraction of the concept, the linguistic, hermeneutic and even epistemological or scientific-social inquiry and the logical expressions of representation and its indeterminacy of interpretation with a certain reminiscence of naturalized epistemology and the W.V.Quine's linguistic results brought me especially closer to the linguistic aspects and theory of language present with special rigor in the work of Hernández and his influence of Peirce's semiotics, perhaps due to that criterion advanced by George Steiner inAfter Babel that "to understand is to translate" with a certain reminiscence but this does not mean that Hernández's work can be reduced solely to its linguistic aspects, but rather that the work of the Cuban-American anthropologist, ethnomethodologist and phenomenologist moves towards a beyond the properly intramundane on a path towards textual exegesis and the genesis of the sign from an "intramundane" herewith with a properly phenomenological itinerary.
