“Ograbme” Political Cartoon

H: This was a political cartoon portrayed by Thomas Jefferson and it talks about the embargo that created an impact on the government and how many ships aren't permitted to ship cargo off to foreign countries, which is what is displayed in this image of a man stealing sugar and a turtle trying to prevent him from doing so.

A: The audience would be the public, but more specifically theives who are shipping sugar to foreign lands. And the cartoon is trying to show an example of how dangerous disobeying the Embargo Act is. Another audience could also be the people who deliver the cargo to foreign lands or the people involved in transporting the goods.

P: The maker of this cartoon opposed the embargo and clearly thinks that Americans are getting negatively affected by this embargo. It shows how the turtle preventing the man from transporting sugar can possibley affect the general public.

P: The purpose of this document is to display the discontent that the author feels about the embargo, which is most likely shown to an audience of those who share the same thoughts. A lot of the public didn't like the Embargo Act, because it created many restrictions on transportation, but according to some, it helped prevent future problems or relationships with the British and French. At the time, America was in the midst of a war, so the Embargo Act ensured that the colonies don't get tangled up in it.
