Federal Edifice Cartoon

H - During this time, states were deciding on the ratification of the 1787 U.S Constitution, which was held in their own ratification conventions. Because divisions ran deep between those who opposed the constitution and those who were for it, the ratification process was very controversial. North Carolina was in the process of getting ratified whereas Rhode Island is crubling.

A - The intended audience of this document would be the people in America, including both the federalists and antifederalists. It seems like this appealed more to people who were for the constitution and did not need much convincing. This could also be shown to people in the 13 colonies to raise awareness of the governmental situation.

P - The creator of this cartoon was in support of the ratification of the constitution. It can be seen that the author supports a stronger federal government and is a federalist. The language shows that the author believes that if the Constitution were ratified, the United States would become a greater nation.

P - This cartoon was an expression of federalist pro-American ideas. ITserved as an announcement of triumph. It showed the states that have ratified the constitution as a well built structure that has the help of a powerful entity, while the state that has not joined them as crumbling and weak. Is it putting North Carolina up on a bigger pedestal by the hand.
