Charles Grandison Finney

H: This was going on during the second Great Awakening. This piece is being told by a highly esteemed religious figure at the time. It can also be inferred that the idea of trancendentalism was going around. This led to many speeches and messages being passed around to promote this belief.

A: This document is targeted towards the sinners. Because he specifically addresses sinners, it can be inferred that it is to all Christians because the principles of Christianity is that everyone is a sinner.

P: Finney believes that sinners can be changed ("saved"), and does not believe in predestination. The document shows that he also had transcendentalists views and did not agree with the original beliefs of the church. He believed that one should be looking inside or within.

P: The main purpose was to convince people that they are able to be saved even when they began as sinners. He was writing to give comfort and reassurance to Christians and to give them motivation to continue living their lives without fear of ending up in Hell.
