Platform of the “Know Nothing” Party

H This was happening during the Antebellum era before the civil war, when there was a mass immigration of Irish and German, of which many were also Catholic. The ideals associated with the know-nothing party were accepted by a significant amount of people throughout the nation.

A The intended audience for this document was the general American republic because of their ability to carry forth the ideas described in the document if they were to be convinced. It could also be adressed to the general public to build support for the party.

P The authors of the document have a negative opinion/opposition towards the immigrants. They want to limit the amount of people that arrive because they also worry that the increase in immigrants can affect voting.

P The purpose of the document was to inform and educate the general public on the Know-Nothing Party’s platform. It was to let people know what the idea was based of off.
