How are you feeling about APUSH after this first week?

My first week of APUSH was a semi-difficult transition as I was trying to determine what is expected from the teacher. Like all AP classes, APUSH is a hybrid course, incorporating the atmosphere, expectations, and workload of a college course in the high school classroom, so I know I have to stay on top of my work. APUSH is not like my previous history classes; in APUSH we don't analyze history as something that happened in the past, but as a narration of the events and how important it is to study it. I feel very engaged and comfortable in the class, and am excited to see what else brings forth.

You all expressed that you felt let down by your previous learning on Indigenous America… What should be done to improve this experience for future students?

I felt that they way we learned about Indigenous America was very monotonous. If we can incorporate the same activities we do in the APUSH class such as, group discussions, analyzing primary documents, and comparing to other sources to see what is different about other excerpts the class would be improved. As we learned in APUSH different cultures/people have different perceptions of an event that happened. Analyzing the different events from a different lens helps students understand history better than to just read the facts from history textbooks.
