Tech Changemakers 2022-2023

Overview

The 2022-2023 edition of the impactful 4-H Tech Changemakers program in Arizona faced some unique challenges. There was only 1 Tech Changemaker, Ivan Becerril, representing the entire state that year. However, through dedicated collaboration, the small but mighty team was able to overcome barriers and create meaningful change. Additionally, Ivan's leadership and passion for digital inclusion earned him the title of National 4-H Tech Changemaker Ambassador. The Arizona 4-H Tech Changemaker Ivan Becerril, Santa Cruz County 4-H Agent Norma Ruiz, 4-H STEM Specialist Dr. Gerardo (Jerry) Lopez, and Instructional Specialist Andres Astra worked tirelessly to translate the English curriculum into Spanish. Breaking down the language barrier was key to making digital skills training accessible for all community members in need. Additionally, the team developed a customized, interactive curriculum that aligned directly with Santa Cruz County's technology knowledge gaps and workforce needs. With community-centered designs and bilingual accessibility at the forefront, impactful skills like, digital media production, cybersecurity, resume development, Microsoft Office, and hardware literacy were taught. Despite its small size, the 2022-2023 Arizona 4-H Tech Changemaker cohort paved the way for county-specific digital literacy workshops. Adopting adaptable training and emphasizing inclusivity, technology access, and knowledge was spread effectively to adults in Santa Cruz County. The program continues to grow and drive innovation thanks to the passionate, creative work of 4-H instructors and teen leaders.
