The innovative Cross Reality (XR) Floating Farm Project introduced youth to the fascinating world of augmented reality (AR) and computer science last year. Over 24 hours of engaging software activities, students explored AR fundamentals, history, and real-world applications while nurturing creativity.
Leveraging intuitive platforms like Tinkercad, Vuforia, and Unity, youth learned to develop their own virtual floating farms! This hands-on design process allowed participants to gain confidence in emerging technologies while incorporating their cultural perspectives.
Students joined virtual sessions and in-person classes to collaborate with peers across Arizona, making new friends and bringing their imaginations to digital life. Implemented online and in-person, the XR Floating Farm Curriculum advanced computer skills and relationships alike.
By fusing virtual elements onto physical environments using camera visualization, augmented reality unlocked new dimensions for discovery and innovation. As 4-H youth delved into this rapidly evolving arena through the creation of virtual sustainable farms, they uncovered promising new STEM careers. With lots of creativity on display and beaming smiles throughout, the Cross Reality Floating Farm Project was both educational and fun!
