  • Can you recall a time when you felt particularly encouraged by someone? What did they do or say to encourage you? Did this encouragement have any lasting effect on your life?
  • How has God’s Word been encouraging to you? Are there any particular passages that you have found to be especially encouraging?

Encouragement is coming alongside another to help them flourish

  • What do you think of this definition of encouragement? Does this definition bring any new meaning to encouragement for you?
  • Who are some people in your life who you have the opportunity to encourage every day?
  • What are some ways you can encourage these specific people?
  • Have you ever had encouragement go bad (someone trying to encourage you but only making you feel worse)? Why does this kind of thing happen? How can we keep from giving this kind of bad encouragement?
  • Are you currently experiencing any discouragements in your own life? What do you feel would be most helpful to you in your discouragement? What do you feel would be least helpful to you?
  • How can we pray for one another this week?

PRAY:

End your time by having someone read Psalm 34:18 aloud. Spend some time silently reflecting on this passage before you close in prayer. Be sure to pray for anything that was shared in the last question.
