Design Pre-thesis 3 | Sustainable Technologies
Natural daylight is a cheap alternative to artificial lighting. However, modern architectural styles, which feature large amounts of glass, lead to risks of over-illumination and therefore glare. The dissonance between recommended lux levels for key interior spaces and sky illuminance also leads to high contrasts in illuminance, which causes glare. This pre-thesis explores the introduction of an adaptive zone whose illuminance level mediates between key interior spaces and the outdoors, thus allowing visual adaptation time to occur.
