Design Pre-thesis 1 | Social Culture
Ever since the British Colonial times, in Malaya back in the mid 19th century up to the 20th century, the Malays ethnic group have been designated with an area to reside which today are called Kampong Bharu. Traditionally, this place have been habited with the local Malays until today. This is one of the last areas in Wilayah Persekutuan that has remained undeveloped due to the collective stand of the residence that resides in the area. The headstrong thinking that residence of Kampung Bahru is that the desire to not stray too far away from the Malay culture, both architectural and lifestyle alike. This has left many reputable developers and city planners baffled for years. Hence for the writing of this paper, the proposed integration of culture and urban living into one compound may be able to tackle the challenge of headstrong mind set together with fresh new ideas to urbanize this historic place. This proposal will converge the practice of Malay vernacular touch and feel yet maintaining the modern urbanization infrastructure to the compound giving the locals a familiar feel to the lifestyle that they have been cultivating. These two paradoxical parallels of old and new will coexist at the same time and will be reflected in the final build of the structure.
