The MaKatha Circle is the recognized student organization and governing body of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters' Creative Writing program.

First recognized in 2021, the UST MaKatha Circle is dedicated to creating a safe space for and honing the skills of budding Thomasian writers. The motto of St. Francis de Sales, the patron saint of journalists and writers, “Non-excidet” which means “I will not fail”, became the motto of the UST MaKatha Circle, since it represents the burning drive of young creative writers to carry out the organization’s purpose. Backed by careful examination into the mission and needs of the program, the Faculty of Arts and Letters designed a curriculum that will produce committed, competent, and compassionate critical writers who will soon be the catalysts of art, cultural, and societal change.
