The Faculty of Arts and Letters Student Council (ABSC) is the highest governing student body in the oldest, most comprehensive, and premier liberal arts college in the Philippines, based at the University of Santo Tomas.
The council, as an autonomous, democratic, and representative body, shall be the sole representative of the whole Artlets student body in any legitimate activity inside or outside the university and shall organize the Artlets students in activities that will promote academic excellence and freedom of socio-cultural formation, and active participation in issues vital and relevant to the academic community. Sovereignty resides in its members and shall recognize and uphold the rights of every member to participate in its legitimate activities.
With almost 4,000 students, we are home to a student body of 13 disciplines equipped with myriad talents, skills, interests, and a sense of comfort.
The Faculty of Arts and Letters is an institution of learning geared towards the development and fulfillment of the total person, the Universal Man, focusing on the Arts and the Humanities, mainly, and spreading out to include the sciences, social and natural, guided by Christian faith and avowed Thomasian ideals and the highest social, national, international and even global standards and objectives.
The envisioned goal is for the College's turn out not only learned but wisened individuals who, motivated by the highest standards of excellence, excel in their chosen fields, eventually becoming role models in society, potential leaders and achievers of the country, all in the spirit not only of personal but also social and more importantly, spiritual commitment.
Policy Affairs
The Policy Affairs Committee reviews, develops, and advocates for policies within an organization or institution. This committee focuses on ensuring that policies align with the organization’s goals, values, and legal requirements. They play a crucial role in promoting effective policy implementation, monitoring policy developments, and recommending policy improvements.
Grievance Affairs
The Grievance Affairs Committee plays a vital role in ensuring fairness, transparency, and the resolution of grievances within AB. This committee focuses on addressing concerns, complaints, and conflicts raised by the students, intending to promote a harmonious and inclusive environment for all.
Academic Affairs
The Academic Affairs Committee plays a pivotal role in promoting academic excellence, fostering a conducive learning environment, and addressing academic-related concerns within AB. This committee focuses on enhancing the quality of education, supporting academic initiatives, and advocating for the educational needs and interests of students.
ResPub
The Research and Publications Committee collaborates closely with the president in conducting research within AB, aiming to gather valuable insights, assess impact levels, identify needs, and provide a foundation for informed decision-making. Their research efforts support the setting of priorities, strategic planning, evaluation processes, and conducting constituency check surveys.
Disaster and Risk Reduction

The Finance Affairs Committee is responsible for the proper budget allocation of all projects and affairs undertaken by the UST Artlets Student Council. They play a crucial role in managing financial resources, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the effective utilization of funds.
The Community Development Committee is responsible for overseeing projects concerning community development affairs. They will act as the link connecting the AB community development leaders to the UST Simbahayan Community Development Office (SCDO) through the faculty’s SCDO unit, creating meaningful contributions to the development of communities in partnership with the university.
The Alumni Affairs Committee is responsible for enriching a harmonious relationship between the Artlets community and the Philets and Artlets Alumni Association Inc. They act as the liaison officers who coordinate as representatives of the student body, facilitating activities, projects, and programs beneficial to all constituents.
The Partnership Affairs Commitee is responsible for fostering progressive and strong relationships between Artlets Student Council and its outward collaborations. They are in charge of bringing the council on a wider scale and creating a constructive partnership with other interest organizations for the benefit of all Artlets.
The Contract Obligations Affairs Committee thoroughly monitors the contract that was made after a fruitful partnership is officially made between the council and its partnered organizations. They are the ones who will be ensuring and checking if both parties are able to comply with the agreed terms and conditions.
Also known as the Irregulars Committee, the SWIS Committee is responsible for addressing the concerns of Students With Irregular Schedule (SWIS) through the constant communication with the Faculty’s Administration, Coordinators, and Support Staff. The SWIS Committee is also responsible in providing initiatives that will result in the betterment of our SWIS Artlets.
The Campaigns and Advocacies Committee is responsible for the heightening of sociopolitical awareness of the Faculty of Arts and Letters on current events and different social issues through educational initiatives and platforms.
The Mental Health Committee is responsible for prolonging the advocacy of mental health in the Artlets community. The committee ensures that the mental health of the faculty’s students, teaching, and non-teaching staff are prioritized through initiatives for the betterment of the faculty.
The Secretariat Committee shall supervise, review, and process the papers and requirements of all projects and events in the Council. This Committee serves as a bridge between the agendas of the Council and the Administration. Their efforts play a crucial role in ensuring the success and approval of the Council’s proactive initiatives.
The Evaluations and Compliance Committee is essential in promoting a culture of positive change and innovation in the Council as they collect, analyze, and conclude data retrieved from previous projects. Their evaluations serve as documentation references for future projects and Councils to come.
The Information and Digital Maintenance Committee is responsible for the handling and monitoring of the Council website. They are tasked to regularly ensure that the online repository of documents and Council services, as well as te faculty-specific write-ups, remains updated, suitable, and accessible to the Artlets community.
The Auditing Committee oversees and conducts an independent assessment of all of the financial operations of the council. This Committee serves a crucial role to the AB community as its mandate is to uphold accountability and project transparency and truth in the governance of the council. They ensure a well-accounted council when it comes to financial operations.
The Sponsorship Committee is charged with raising funds for the council through sponsorship means. This includes connecting with and requesting sponsorship from organizations for the council’s projects for the whole of the AB Community. They ensure funding for council functions and activities through sponsorship with groups and entities that are aligned with the council’s advocacies and beliefs, as well as groups and entities who embody and represent the students’ welfare and needs.
The E-Sports Committee supervises and conducts all E-Sports-related events of the council. This committee is responsible for brainstorming and producing E-Sports-related programs that ensure the competency of Artlets in competing in tournaments inside and outside the University. The E-Sports Committee is also responsible for keeping decorum and fairness in all E-Sports-related events of the council.
The Assets Management Committee shall oversee all operations of assets and facilities of the whole AB community. They serve as the bridge between the students and the Facilities Management Office of the University to secure, maintain, and restore all assets and facilities of the Faculty. Their mandate is to ensure a safe, effective, and working learning environment for all Artlets.
The Creatives Committee shall execute the promotional ideas and campaigns of every project within the Faculty of Arts and Letters. They are responsible for crafting and producing publication materials aligned with the council’s activities, events, and announcements.
The Media and Coverages committee shall cover events within the Faculty of Arts and Letters and be a representative in university-wide activities. They are responsible for the creation of media coverages for photo and video materials and on-site documentation during the council’s activities and events.
The Marketing and Promotions Committee shall maintain the flow of information and streamline the schedule of events within the Faculty of Arts and Letters. They are responsible for spearheading the digital marketing efforts of the council such as captioning and uploading of publicity materials online.
The Operations Committee handles all productions of the Artlets Student Council. Aspects such as technicals, scriptwriting, directing, and all production works are crucial for this committee.
The Logistics Committee handles the procurement of tangible materials per event. This committee is tasked with logistics on events such as the creation of floor plans, program flow, and proper allocation of manpower to ensure smooth flow.
The AB Haus of Talents is the breeding ground for the in-house talents of the Artlets Student Council who are passionate and willing to share it with the Artlets Community. This Committee handles entertainment through hosting and performance with all the events handled by the council.
The Human Resources Department oversees the well-being of the Council members, their recruitment, staffing, and training, as well as their concerns and grievances within the Council. This Committee ensures healthy well-being, a safe environment, camaraderie, and harmonious relationships inside the ABSC.
