Student Absence
To report a student's absence, please email attendance@urbanacademy.ca or call the school office at 604-524-221.
Please provide the following information:
First and last name of the student(s)
The reason for the absence (sick, vacation, appointment, etc.)
If the student(s) are arriving late
Extended absence — If your child will be absent for three (3) or more days, please submit the Student Extended Absence Form

We reviewed the 2024/25 school year, reflected on UA’s 25 years and looked ahead at the work being done by the board to successfully enter our next 25 years. In early October, we set out to raise $225,000 for our annual giving fund. Annual Giving really is what enables us to enrich the program and see students thrive. Much of what Mr. Twaites writes above is due to the investments made by this initiative.
Drum roll, please…. This year, together as a community, we have raised $217,900, representing gifts from nearly 50% of UA families! On behalf of UA Students, thank you to all of those families who have given to help make this possible!
As you can see, we haven’t quite hit our goal just yet, as we have $7,100 to go. There are still two weeks to get your donations in for this tax season. So please consider helping us get over that line by participating in these ways:
e-Transfer to advancement@urbanacademy.ca (no password required), or
Donate a Parent Equity Unit through a very simple parent equity donation form.
For those who have given other than online, tax receipts will be distributed in January. Thank you for making a lot of what we do at UA possible!

You are invited to a Holly Jolly show at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster on Wednesday, December 17 (show starts at 6 pm). All students in Grades 1–7, and Grade 8–12 Performing Arts classes (Band, Choir, Show Choir, Wind Ensemble) will be participating in our annual Winter Concert.

Out of School Care
OOSC will be running activities for UA students (JK to 12 years old) during winter break. The deadline to register is December 8. OOSC will be closed December 25, 26 and January 1.
Sports Camp
Sport Camp at UA is full of sports and games! Open to kids in Grades 2–7, this camp offers a variety of activities tailored to different age groups and skill levels. Sport options include exploring our favourite activities, including basketball, soccer, California kickball, and pickleball. Our kids will be grouped by age and ability to maximize enjoyment while developing athletic skills in a safe, fun and inclusive setting.
Bus Service
Bus Service
The Urban Academy morning and afternoon bus service has room to take on new students. Parents can forgo the drive to and from school and can register for either morning pick up, afternoon drop off, or both at central locations throughout the Tri-Cities, Burnaby and New West. Fees would be prorated until the balance of the year, and route and timing can be found online. If you would like to register or be contacted about registration, please complete this form, and our staff will be in touch.

For any current families who are planning to apply for the 2026/27 school year, please make a note of the application deadlines:
Grade 1-12: January 30, 2026
Junior Kindergarten: February 13, 2026
We are happy to walk you through the process and what to expect. Please fill out this short Sibling Applicant Interest Form, and we will be in touch with some helpful information as you make plans for the coming year.
