2022 Minnesota Environmental Landscape: An Advocate's View

Abstract

With an accelerating climate crisis and several controversial copper-nickel mine proposals, Minnesota regulatory agencies and the Minnesota Legislature have a lot on their plates in 2022. Learn from an advocate who works on environmental review, permitting and legislative efforts about some of the hot button environmental issues in 2022.

Biosketch

Aaron Klemz is the Chief Strategy Officer of the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, a public interest law firm and advocacy organization that has been defending Minnesota's environment and the health of its people since 1974. Aaron supervises the communications, federal lobbying and state lobbying efforts at MCEA, and has been a key advocate on copper-nickel mining proposals for over a decade. Aaron has been at MCEA in a number of communications and policy roles since 2017, and was the Advocacy Director at Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness before that. He holds a Masters in Advocacy and Political Leadership from University of Minnesota-Duluth and a Masters of Science in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and recently taught graduate policy making courses at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul.
