Bio

Divya Karnad is an award winning conservationist and an Assistant Professor at Ashoka University, India. Having completed her Ph.D. in Geography from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, USA and a Masters in Wildlife Biology and Conservation from the National Centre for Biological Sciences, she is a truly interdisciplinary scholar. She addresses marine conservation at multiple levels; she studies and promotes the conservation of threatened sharks, advocates for sustainable fishing and responsible seafood consumption, and her research reveals indigenous forms of sustainable fisheries management. She co-founded INSEASON FISH (@inseasonfish), a sustainable seafood initiative in India. For her work on bringing together shark conservation and sustainable fisheries through responsible seafood eating, Divya is the first Indian woman to win the prestigious global Future for Nature Award.
