What relevant experience would you bring to the position you are seeking?

After 3 years working as a Lighting Technician at Northwest High School's Drama Department, I was promoted to Lighting Supervisor. I oversaw and directed a group of ten students, coordinated with the stage manager and the production director, and was responsible for all handles for inventory stock and purchases. This was my first step I took towards becoming an efficient leader.

I also attended a 5-day leadership retreat called STRiVE, held by the UMBC's Student Life. I learned to improve on communication skills, conflict management, handle ethical dilemmas, and learn about more of my values. I accomplished to better myself as a leader and to develop different ways to strengthen the community of UMBC. With STRiVE, I am able to carry out what I have learned to better the environment around me in my later carrier.

As of the spring semester of 2018, I was nominated to be a floor representative by other members in the Susquehanna Community Council. I assist in the communication and promotion of events within my floor, collaborate and contribute with the E-board members, and communicating with the Residential Assistants and Community Directors. Being a floor representative allows me to have a role in the Community Council and bring in new ideas to make the community more safe and welcoming.

Being a member of the Japanese Student Association allowed me to embrace my own culture in UMBC. Wanting to become more involved with the Japanese community on campus, the interning position allowed me to be one more step ahead towards engaging the cultural aspect of UMBC. This allows me to share new ideas to the officer meetings and help plan for events for cultural awareness. Interning at the Japanese Student Association supports me to extend the cultural awareness of UMBC's community while also bringing the community closer.

What is your vision for UMBC and the UMBC student body?

For an inclusive community that is brought together by the students body.

How do you plan to facilitate communications with your constituents?

As a UMBC representative, I plan to develop a deep level of partnership with my constituents. It is important to engage with one another, person-person, to raise issues and hear feedback about various goals. Engaging with the UMBC student organization populace is another important element when it comes to promoting communications in the community. The basic underlying point towards engaging with this group is to have a strong sense of valuable objectives and establishing issues that need to be addressed, alongside with developing alternative options.
