In this class, I worked to try and obtain a better understanding of the human body and its natural movement. While being able to render an image and understanding shading, theories, etc is important in art, it is even more valuable to understand how to draw the body. The majority of information we obtain from other people is non-verbal and I wanted to learn how to display those non-verbal communications through my art.
In this class, I learned so much, from changing the line weight to techniques that would improve the quality of my sketches. There is no doubt I will be able to better communicate messages through my art thanks to this course.
Before this class, the sketches I did were horribly composed and all over the place. When drawing, I just scribbled what I saw from reference images and didn't think too much about them. I occasionally studies anatomy to understand certain shapes of the body, but it was not my primary focus.
By the end, I was able to compose my sketches well enough that I would be able to illustrate them well. I also was braver and attempted to draw more complicated poses. I learned to use different line weights instead of drawing with a same width brush. This allowed me to create figures that had more expression and allowed the view to tell the area of focus.
I created this animation from a reference video of myself stretching. I tried to keep it very simple to make sure the body looks natural and loose moving. It is 12 frames per second and each frame is uniquely drawn.
This collaborative piece is by Aamber, Akane, Alex, Clover, Hime, Isabel, and Jenna, and myself. I had a lot of fun in this class and I loved everyone's work so I wanted to make a fun art piece of everyone having fun and enjoying the holidays together.
