Medium: India Ink
I started this class as an senior art major who has been illustrating seriously since high school, however through exercises we have been doing in class I found many limitations in my skills as an artist and was very excited by this. I think when you find your weaknesses and you start to know what you don't know, you find a gateway to improvement. I learned the importance of drawing the (human) figure; it is the most recognizable visual that we are all familiar with- if proportions are off we would notice right away because we are constantly looking at other people around us. To be able to represent it accurately means that you have a grasp on a fundamental of art.
I love illustrating everything but I have a particular affinity for representing animals in my art.
I am also a musician: a singer/songwriter in popular music.
Medium: Watercolor
My proportions here were okay, but I think the placement of the limbs looks awkward and a bit off. I created this last year in 2020.
I used to create digital art very frequently in middle school but I stopped for many years and this class pushed me back into it. I was enamored by digital art illustration and feel blessed that this class got me to pick it back up again. I created this panda in my spare time while taking this course.
Medium: Watercolor & Gel Pen
Making so many figure drawings and studying limbs, their proportions, how they move, bend, and rest, tremendously helped to make the bunny look comfortably seated in its hat. It looks much more natural & accurate than my previous works. I had a bit of a grasp of this before, but the practice that I had in this class has not only improved it greatly but has created more consistency in my work. I created this painting in my spare time while taking this course. As we did figure studies in this class, I applied that to my animal drawings and did studies of bunnies before creating this. I then referenced 3-4 different images and made this composition that is uniquely my own. This is an unreleased work of art that I will be sharing as part of a song I am releasing soon.
A concept piece of a Magician character going from standing to sitting.
This was a collaboration with Kenneth Arnold (transparent figure), Clover Marez (background), Hailey Finnecy (top hat girl), and my own art (top hat guy and penguin). In the storyboard I put together this is a scene where the Magician rescued her penguin and brought him home to her.
