Funding of up to $750 is available for in-training members to share their research outcomes in women and/or children’s health. Research outcomes supported through this program include in-person (oral or poster) abstract presentations at conferences and scientific sessions or publication in peer-reviewed journals. This funding program is non-competitive and offered as a benefit of WCHRI membership.

Overview
This funding opportunity is offered by the Department of Pediatrics with the support of the Women and Children's Health Research Institute (WCHRI). The purpose of the RTRG award is to provide resources and support for eligible trainees to gain experience in the components of completing a research grant from start to finish, including developing research skills and tools that may be helpful in the future.
Applicants can apply for up to $500.00 (plus up to $780.00 for biostatistical support) to support their research. This award may be held for a period not exceeding the trainee’s actual program end date. It is expected that all awardees will complete the research project as outlined in the approved application, under the guidance of their mentor(s).
Expenses should not be related to travel/conference presentation. TOPP funds should be applied for separately for this (see above)
Applications must be submitted in the first year of the General Pediatric Residency Program and prior to the onset of the research. By submitting applications before research projects are underway, applicants can incorporate feedback from external reviewers, which enhances the methodological quality and scientific rigor of their proposed research. Only in exceptional circumstances will an application be considered eligible for funding if it is submitted after the project has started. Mentors are expected to play an active and engaged role in the development of the application and implementation of the research project.
Application intake for the 2025 RTRG award will in Spring of your first year and the application deadline will be in the Summer of your second year. Exact dates will be distributed by email. Applications will be reviewed with final notifications sent out in early Fall of second year.
Applicants must:
Be registered in the General Pediatrics residency program at the University of Alberta.
Residents are required to apply for this award in Year 1 of their residency program
Present an application with a detailed mentorship plan
Commit to completing the work by their program end date
Generate academic output, including an academic poster or oral presentation at a relevant meeting (e.g., Pediatric Research Day) and a peer-reviewed manuscript (when possible)
be WCHRI academic members; and,
have a demonstrated record of effective mentorship.

The Prestigious Research Presentation Bursary is open to all trainees in the Department of Pediatrics, to help off-set the costs related to presenting at a prestigious conference/meeting. In order to be eligible, trainees must exhaust PGME Resident Professional Development (RPD) and WCHRI funds. There are up to ten bursaries available (with up to a maximum of $2000 per bursary) per academic year.
Applications are reviewed and approved by the Stollery Fellowship Finance Committee a minimum of 60 days prior to conference/meeting, on a case by case basis.
