Our Program has an excellent mentorship program here in the Department of Pediatrics. Mentoring is important because it provides professional socialization and support to facilitate success in residency and beyond.
You will be matched with a faculty mentor, who is someone you can seek confidential assistance from, for personal and professional matters. Your mentor will be someone you can go to for information on your career path, who will provide you with guidance, motivation, emotional support and who will be role model for you.
We realize that in pairings of this sort, some relationships will naturally flourish, while others may not and that's OK. We will work with you to connect you with someone who has the same or similar career goals as you. Every 6 months we will be checking in to see if this mentorship is meeting your needs.
Be curious. Step outside your comfort zone and be curious.
Be honest with your mentor. Your mentor is there to help you.
Respect your mentor as they will respect you.
Know exactly what you want to get out of the mentor/mentee relationship.
Keep the lines of communication open.
Give as well as get. It works both ways, so actively participate in the relationship.
