Lead resident(s), typically two, are nominated by their peers and appointed by the program directors and reviewed at RPC with discretion of overall performance. Lead residents act as liaisons between the staff and residents. They are available to address concerns of residents (both pediatric and rotating off service residents) and help with problem solving/trouble shooting. More importantly, they act as representatives for their fellow residents at meetings and voice resident concerns and opinions. The General Pediatrics Lead Resident term is from 1 May to 30 April (one month overlap between incoming and outgoing chiefs).
Lead residents should always be striving to find ways to improve the overall well-being and morale of the pediatric resident group and the program.

For a detailed list of duties: Lead Job Description
Each year, residents volunteer to represent the resident group as whole, on a variety of different committees or with outside organizations (ABP, AAP, CPS, etc). The leads will recruit volunteers, annually with the expectation that every resident serves on a committee. Some residents choose to serve the same committee for the their full 3 or 4 years in residency.
All resident representatives are responsible for updating the resident body as needed on committee initiatives and mandates. Some committees will also require the representative(s) to report back to the committee on behalf of the whole resident body or the training level they represent.
