In the first and the second years of residency residents will have the opportunity for direct observation of history and physical skills in their community pediatric clinics and continuity clinics respectively. You can ask any of your NECHC preceptors or continuity clinic preceptors to observe history, physicals or formal case summary to have ongoing formal practice prior to your third year.
In the third year/end of Core of Discipline training residents are required to have one passing STACER, at the level of a consultant pediatrician, for their exam eligibility. A second examiner will be added to the observation if there are repeated unsuccessful summative attempts to provide more opportunity for feedback for the learner's growth and improvement.
If a resident has not successfully completed a (2 examiner) STACER after three attempts, the residency program may require a targeted learning plan prior to further attempts. The standard of attempts across the country is three attempts.
If a recurrent theme is noted in comments from STACER examiners the program will develop a learning plan according to the identified area for focused improvement.
