Student Portfolios using Google Sites

Steps:

1. Present students with lessons on digital citizenship prior to creating sites.
2. Students create a home page. Allow students to creatively customize their homepage while maintaining a safe online presence. This will provide students the opportunity to learn navigation and use of Google Sites.
3. Students create content pages appropriate for sharing their work.
4. Have students publish, control access, and share links.
5. Students add projects to their pages. Elements could include text, photos, and links to other digital work.
6. Create a digital folder of class pictures within the teacher's GoogleDrive. Create a link to share with students so they can access files, copy to their drives, and use those files on their own sites.
7. Students assist peers with site creation and navigation. As students assist each other, they become more familiar and confident. Students will rely less on teacher intervention and become more confident in their own abilities.
8. Students peer review of work presented on the sites, requiring them to keep their own site up to date and allow their peers to see other students sites, as well as review and reflection of the individual assignment.
9. Have students that are more proficient and confident with Google site creation and navigation assist their peers with their sites.
10. Students showing proficiency can also assist school staff members with using and navigating Google Suite applications.
