6 Critical Practices

Designed to equip leaders with the mindsets, skills, and tools necessary to succeed in their pivotal roles of effective leadership

This page has been created with you, the manager, in mind.  Use this site to access a variety of resources which are beneficial for your management needs and your continued development in using the 6 Critical Practices for Leading a Team to successfully manage your team.

A Leader's Mindset

The leader's mindset is one of the most important facets of being a leader.  Supervisors must first see themselves as leaders in order to effectively motivate, teach, and support their teams.  The leader's mindset determines how a leader will use available resources to effectively manage departmental operations. Ultimately, your leader's mindset will determine how you interpret situations and how you respond to them.

1-on-1s

A key component of employee engagement is the 1-on-1.  Not only is the 1-on-1 a great way to get to know your employee, but it also provides a great opportunity for supervisors and employees to discuss and review performance, projects, professional interests and opportunities for growth.  1-on-1s are a great tool for building trust and aligning team goals while earning respect as a leader.

Getting Results

A crucial role that the supervisor plays is based on getting results.  Often supervisors may feel that results are directly based on their own efforts instead of  through the efforts of the team.  Supervisors can excel by developing the mindset that their role is more geared to facilitating or making it easier for their team to get the results needed. A shift in this mindset can allow the supervisor to lead a team to continuous success regardless of the team being impacted by change.

Managing Your Time and Energy

Most leaders spend time ensuring that their calendars are organized, often filling them up with back-to-back meetings and projects that take up their precious work time.  The mindset here is to make use of every minute in order to take advantage of time.  Instead of simply trying to manage time, focus on managing your energy to avoid burnout and exhaustion while ensuring that all projects get completed.  Advocating for you and your team to practice self-care is an advocacy for optimal performance.
