Retirement Programs

Teacher Retirement System (TRS)

MyTRS  is the online access portion of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas website. You can use MyTRS  to help plan for retirement, and keep track of your personal account. MyTRS  is available to eligible TRS members and annuitants who have completed the registration process.

Optional Retirement Program (ORP)

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) provides statewide coordination for the Optional Retirement Program administered by Texas public institutions of higher education.

  • ORP New Participant - Change of Provider Form

  • TDA-ORP Master Vendor List

TRS & ORP Differences

As a TSTC employee newly hired or promoted to an ORP-eligible position, you have an important choice to make in your retirement program – the decision to elect to participate in the Optional Retirement Program instead of Teacher Retirement System.

Voluntary Savings Programs

Tax-Deferred Annuity (TDA) 403(b) Retirement

A Tax-Deferred Annuity (TDA) plan is a voluntary 403(b) retirement program that allows you to save addition income for retirement through pre-tax contributions. Contributions are made through payroll deductions and may be invested in mutual funds and also fixed or variable annuities with any one of the authorized vendors. There is no employer contribution with the 403(b) Tax-Deferred Annuity plan.

To get started, contact a representative on the list of authorized vendors. Complete the account application and other documents the representative will have. The completed documents must come to Human Resources before the payroll deduction can begin. The effective date of your plan will always be the first day of the month following the date Human Resources receives the paperwork.

To make changes to an existing account, contact HR Benefits (see below). If you want to change how your funds are being invested, contact your vendor directly. You can start or stop your account or change the amount of your contributions at any time during the year. You can also change the company your contributions are going to anytime.

Texa$aver /457 Program

It’s never too soon to plan for a more financially secure retirement. As you begin to plan for retirement, be sure to make good use of tax-advantaged savings like the Texa$aver program and Texa$aver Roth program. With the Texa$aver voluntary retirement savings program, you can increase your personal retirement savings to bridge the financial gap between your pension and Social Security.
