During the Introduction phase you will continue to develop a vision for success in your role and to build clarity on what you most need in order to reach your vision. This phase includes 3 parts:
Checking in on your 30-60-90 Day plan to reflect on progress toward your onboarding goals and priorities, to identify additional support you may need, and to make any necessary adjustments to your plan.
Continuing to build your vision for success by engaging in ride-alongs, co-facilitating, and receiving early feedback on your work.
Reflecting on your strengths and growth edges and setting initial professional goals.
Time: 3-4 Hours
THE OUTCOMES:
Check in on your onboarding experience to date and make any adjustments to meet your needs
Continue to build a vision for success for your role
Reflect on your strengths and areas of growth and set initial professional goals
Time flies when you are having fun! Now that you are 4-6 weeks into your time at Transcend, let’s take a moment to step back and reflect on your onboarding experience so far and make any adjustments.
Do: Identify with your manager a ~30 min 1:1 you will use for 30-60-90 Day Plan check in (e.g. repurpose a weekly 1:1 for this check in, or if your manager has already scheduled monthly growth chats, you may choose to use that time)
Do: Use this sample agenda to prepare for your 30-60-90 Day Plan Check in with your manager.
Do: After your check in, make any adjustments to your plan to ensure it is meeting your needs.
At Transcend, we believe there are “many ways up a mountain” and that there is not one right way to be a successful design partner. Therefore, you will need to continue to build a personal vision for what success looks like in your role. In the past, design partners have noted that seeing others in the work and getting early feedback on their own work is extremely helpful in constructing this vision for success. In this part of onboarding, you will engage in a variety of experiences to support you in developing this vision.
Do: Prepare for and engage in structured ride-alongs with 1-2 members of your portfolio and 1-2 team members outside of your portfolio. Your manager can help you in identifying ride-along partners and experiences aligned with your onboarding priorities and goals. Use the sample ride-along template to prepare for and debrief your experience.
Do: Identify an experience or meeting to have your manager ride along with you in your work. This could be to co-facilitate or have them observe you in a meeting or experience you are leading (also great to do more than one!). Use this sample ride-along template to prepare for and debrief your experience.
Optional: Share a work product (session, resource, memo, etc,) you’ve developed with your manager and ask for feedback in specific areas (e.g. tone, clarity, succinctness)
Do: Approximately 90 days into your time here, schedule a 90-day check in feedback conversation with your manager. You may use this simple template to prepare for and engage in your conversation.
Note: After this 90-day check in, new Transcenders begin to engage in Transcend’s formal professional growth system. Additionally, all SDSers should expect to have a growth chat with their Senior Advisor ~monthly.
Do: Create a visual representation of your vision for success. This could be a drawing, word cloud, collection of pictures or words and phrases. Share your visual with your manager and a member of your onboarding cohort.
Now that you have a clearer vision of success for your role, it’s time to reflect on your strengths and areas of growth in relation to this vision, set growth goals for the coming year, and begin to develop a plan for your development.
Do: Engage in a professional growth conversation with your manager. Use this sample agenda to help you prepare for and engage in this conversation.
