Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.

Our Learning For Life Programme is structured into two tiers.

TIER 1 - exposure for all students

Under Tier 1, every student will experience various art forms through arts enrichment activities grouped under Platforms for Lifelong Artistic Youths (PLAY).

All Secondary One and Two students participate in a 14-week arts enrichment programme as part of their curriculum. It is an hour of fun activities, away from the usual lessons, to interact with others in the same level cohort!

Secondary One students participate in a wide range of arts-related activities, ranging from visual arts activities like batik painting, metal tooling, mosaic art to playing the ukulele and even hip-hop dance. By the end of the year, they will experience at least three different art forms.

Secondary Two students take part in a 14-week drama programme. Drama allows them to express themselves confidently and take on increasingly challenging assignments with a 'can do' attitude.

Our students look forward to their drama lessons each week. Students have fun, while picking up drama skills like how to project their voices or how to use dramatic movement to express themselves. They collaborate with others in script writing and acting. No other subject lends itself to fun and pure enjoyment in learning more than drama does!

The Secondary Three cohort is treated to a theatre production as part of their learning journey. Prior to the performance, they are taught basic etiquette that is observed during the performance. These are life lessons that enhance their self-esteem and emphasise socially acceptable behaviour to show respect for others. The theatre production also provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to societal concerns, which are used to spark conversations and reflection.

Examples of activities they participate in are

  • a tour of the Esplanade Concert Hall

  • biennial ITE musical productions

  • local drama productions at Esplanade Theatres.

tier 2 - engagement for Visual & Performing Arts CCA students

Tier 2 engagement is achieved through the visual and performing arts CCA groups. The Distinction through Arts Experiences (DARE) programmes cater to students who have greater aptitude and passion for aesthetics. We strive to develop artists who exude confidence, exemplify resilience and demonstrate compassion to others through the arts.

CREATIVE OUTPUT FOR SOCIAL CAUSES

PROMOTING THE ARTS THROUGH LEARNING JOURNEYS

ARTS ASSEMBLY

We have school-wide assembly programmes to appreciate different art forms. Our staff and students are entertained by performances that enrich their appreciation of different art forms, such as puppet shows, lion dances during Chinese New Year celebrations, taiko drums, beatboxing, drama and dance.

EXPRESSIONS OF EMOTIONS

We use arts to transform, illuminate, educate, inspire and motivate!

We believe that the strong arts culture in our school is cultivated and sustained when our teachers use the arts to develop rich and transformative lessons that engage our students' imagination and creativity.

Our teachers attend many workshops of varied artistic themes, and always learn new skills to guide our students in creative exploration.
