EVERY PARENT, A SUPPORTIVE PARTNER

Parents are important partners in education as they shape the students' attitude towards learning and support their learning at home. Tampines Secondary invites every parent to play an active role in their child's education journey.

However, almost 2 years into Covid-19 pandemic and parents still have limited access to our school, due to safety measures management to ensure continued safety and well-being of students and staff. Hence, TPSS went on to adopt online and offline alternatives to engage parents and provide them with insights to their child's education journey. Our parents have also adapted well to the new arrangements.

We hope that parents value our efforts and will continue to stay connected with us.

PARENTS AS PARTNERS NETWORK (PPN)

PPN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Our school aims to be a supportive place for parents, as well as their child, to learn and grow. To do so, TPSS works with our parent support group, Parents-as-Partners Network ( PPN ) closely, to plan and design programmes for parents, with parents.

The parents in our parents support group, PPN (Parents as Partners Network), are passionate and committed. TPSS "meets" regularly with PPN Executive Committee via ZOOM to achieve synergy on collaborations that benefit both staff and students.

PPN PROGRAMMES

To promote student well-being and encourage peer support for staff and students, PPN organised a gift programme in Semester 1.

The response was overwhelming and they did another round in Semester 2. Our Tampinesian parents are truly awesome.

SUPPORTING TAMPINESIANS DURING NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS

Students with overall wellness tends to perform better and achieve success. Hence, students' well being during examination is of utmost importance to us.

PPN continually shows their support to our students through the provision of snack bar during examination period. A simple snack like a packet of oreos goes a long way to show Tampinesians that they are loved and supported, encouraging them to stay strong under pressure.

A PARENT'S VIEW ON BLENDED LEARNING AND PDLP

Home-Based Learning days will not be entirely a thing of the past.

In fact, it will be a standard practice in schools from 2021 onwards as COVID-19 still poses a threat.

2020 has transformed parents, teachers and students into technology gurus as we are constantly engaged in ZOOM lessons, Google Meet sessions, online shopping sprees and food deliveries. TPSS school staff and teachers have put in a huge amount of effort to conduct live lessons during the HBL period. Kudos to all in TPSS as we braved through these difficult times!

According to MOE and The Straits Times report, home-based learning will be a norm for students starting from 2021 Term 3. All secondary school students (Secondary 1 to Secondary 3) will be getting digital learning devices, a personal laptop or tablet, to facilitate their learning. As parents, we have our worries and concerns. Let us embrace this important change as our children must be savvy to be leaders of the digital world.

Hence, with this change, I believe that our children must and will also learn the importance of Discipline and Cyber Wellness, so as to be responsible cyber users. Technology is advancing rapidly and industries are ever-changing. Solving big challenges like climate change or social inequality requires expertise that spans across multi-disciplinary boundaries. In a nutshell, this is just the beginning of many other challenges for our youth. Are we ready to support them and go further beyond?

Let us embrace change and start learning with them. I believe that TPSS is also ready to partner us for the holistic development of our children.
