Involve me and I learn.

BOOKS COME TO LIFE!

Our signature programme, the EL Trail, is a yearly student-led post-examination programme designed to spark students’ interest in the subject. In 2019, the trail featured stations inspired by well-loved teenage fiction. Students came away from that experience with a deeper interest in reading.

The department also partners the National Library Board in its KidsREAD programme aimed at cultivating the love of reading among children aged 4 - 8 from less privileged families. In 2019, we were privileged to have Roger Jenkins in our school to share reading aloud and storytelling techniques for our interested students. Our students then went on to apply these techniques in their volunteer work, reading to young children enrolled in the KidsREAD programme.

Undaunted by the limitations of COVID-19 this year, the Literature Unit embraced virtual platforms to engage and excite our students. In March, our Secondary Two to Four students attended a Poetry & Illustration Workshop. The first session of the workshop was held face to face, with the second being an asynchronous session. These learning experiences inspired our students' creative and critical thinking by introducing them to different drawing techniques and alternative forms of poetry.
