Matinee Program Order

Showcase Matinee 2019

Time: Show time is 1:30pm (doors open at 1:05pm)

Where: John Wilcox Auditorium, Woburn Collegiate Institute

What you’ll be seeing:

A Day in the Life, performed by the Grade 11/12 Dance Class: This is a piece choreographed entirely by the senior dancers in 6 distinct sections. Each section uses a different dance technique and represents 1 of the many different classes students might be enrolled in throughout their time at Woburn. This piece might look rather familiar, if you attended our Grade 8 Dance day as this is the choreography taught in those workshops. "A Day in the Life" was performed at Woburn, in our Holiday Assembly.
Regular, performed by the Grade 9 Dance Class: This piece is a jazz/hip-hop/Soca dance performed by the grade 9 dance class. Students have worked together as a team to choose a song and create a dance piece for the show. Choreography for this piece was done by: M.s J, and the grade 9 students.
H&H: This piece is an independent, student choreography, blending many different dance techniques and styles including Bollywood and Bhangra. It is performed by 2 of our grade 10 students.
Kpop Cover Dance: Kpop is one of our student-led extracurricular clubs here, specializing in a Korean Cover Dance and is led by one of our Grade 11 students: Tiana. This is 1 of 2 pieces they will be performing tonight
Fusion: Fusion is our newest club, begun this year by one of our Grade 11 students, Tulasi. Fusion lives up to its name by blending a multitude of different dance styles into the performance you are about to see! This is 1 of 2 pieces they will be performing tonight
Island Beatz: Island Beats is one of our oldest student-led extracurricular clubs, specializing in Bollywood, Bhangra and urban dance! Island Beatz is led by 1 of our senior students, Jasmiha. This is 1 of 2 pieces they will be performing tonight
Shenyeng Anthem/Bassline, performed by one of the Grade 10 Dance Class: This piece is a jazz/hip-hop/soca piece performed by our grade 10 dance class. Throughout the year students are introduced to a variety of dance styles such as: hip hop, jazz, tap and ballet. Students are able to work together as a class and decide the style and song they wish to choreograph to for the show. This piece includes choreography by: Ms. J, and the grade 10 students.
Pollution, performed by the Grade 11/12 Dance Class: With a focus on the Earth and environmental issues we have been facing as a race, the grade 11/12 class is performing this comical abstract piece about general pollution and the effect it has on our world. It is a challenging piece because of the unique costumes the dancers perform in for the first half and creates a light-hearted take on a very serious problem, with an important message at the end.
Finale : This is a final bow by all the performers and one last collective choreography.

Directly after the show, there will be a 15-minute question and answer period at the end of the show with all the senior students and extracurricular dance club leaders where the students can ask the dancers any questions they have about the show in general, specific pieces or the experience of dancing in high school, whether in a curricular course or an extra-curricular club.
