Woburn's Welcome assembly always begins each year but rarely includes dancing because it happens so early in the year. However, this year, one of the senior dancers, Laura, choreographed this beautiful solo to add a new dimension to our Welcome Assembly!

Each year, to commemorate Remembrance Day, the Woburn Drama Department organizes a Remembrance Day Assembly. In years past, we have been honoured by the involvement of many community members, including Canadian soldiers back from different tours to share their stories and memories. The Grade 12 piece for Remembrance Day 2009 was a lyrical dance, titled "Permanent", dedicated to all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom

For this piece, the Performance class explored the conflict that can happen when someone finds money – what do you do? Do you keep it? Spend it? Give it away? Or do you try to give it back? What is the right thing to do? The grade 11/12 dancers explore the comical indecision of what to do. And presenting Reverb, a new breaking group!

2 of our grade nine dancers decided to pursue their choreographic goals and create a hard-hitting duet for the TDSB Dare to Dance competition this year. They chose to portray bullying in their breakdance-styled routine, and how bullying will only stop if you choose to stand up and do something about it!
The Woburn finalists, the Predatorz, competing against over 15 schools in the North and East Regions and were 1st runners-up in the final competition, earning the chance to dance for and be judged by Luther Brown, choreographer and judge from So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

This year, the grade 11 and 12 dancer were given the opportunity to work with choreographer, Kevin Ormsby (Artistic Director, Kashedance) who created a piece for our Black History Assembly. Choreographed to the music of renown Congolese singer, Tshala Muana, Queen of Mutuashi, Mr Ormsby’s unique style of dance demonstrates the unique blending of the magnificent influences of Afro-Caribbean culture through modern and classical dance techniques.
