Use light lines to guide your shapes.
This is called crating.
Leave in the light crating lines - Do not rub them out.
Go over the shape that you have drawn with a darker outline so that it stands out.

Draw the 2D flat view of your shape.
Repeat this slightly off to one side and at an angle.
Join the first and second (front and back) shape together - use the corners or the top of curves as the points to join.
