All Success Academy high school students have the chance to take visual and performing arts courses at some of the most prestigious institutions in New York City to hone talents, stand out on their college applications, and even earn college credit. This is part of all of our high school scholars’ standard course offerings.
To be eligible, currently enrolled HSLA scholars must have demonstrated a consistent track record of academic achievement and outstanding character. Most accepted scholars are earning average grades of 70% or higher for academic subjects — although scholars who have demonstrated a strong upward trajectory are also considered.
In addition, scholars must also complete an application, submit a portfolio of work or an audition, and will be evaluated on their communication skills as well as their background and passion in their field of choice. Please note that many institutions also require a supplemental application that must be submitted and accepted by the program to participate.
Scholars must adhere to each partner institution’s attendance policies, as well as notify the institution of when they will be absent. Each institution reserves the right to remove scholars who do not meet their attendance requirements. When this happens, SA will be notified immediately. Scholars who are removed from a program may lose an elective or college credit.
Each institution will apply its own evaluation rubric to assess scholars based on the quality and completion of their work, and will submit these evaluations to SA. At the end of each quarter, scholars are required to submit a work sample from their program, which will be reviewed by subject matter experts in their respective fields. Failure to meet the established evaluation criteria may result in the loss of elective or college credit.
