At Success Academy, we want our scholars to fall in love with learning. We capture their imaginations by introducing them to fascinating content and sparking their natural curiosity. We don't believe learning stops at the classroom doors, and we're committed to field studies in all grades to provide scholars with real-world experiences and opportunities. We want our scholars to recognize and embrace the power of their own ideas, so teachers focus on encouraging independent thinking and problem-solving in their classrooms. Scholars spend most of their day exploring and analyzing powerful texts and inspiring works of art — and executing complex math problems, intriguing science experiments, and winning chess strategies.
Each elementary school also has a social-emotional learning (SEL) specialist to help scholars gain confidence, set and achieve positive goals, collaborate well, and navigate difficult situations more effectively.
Academic Calendar
Working together for your child's growth requires open communication, and it's important to us that it's easy for you to know what's going on! You can view all network and school events related to your child directly on the live calendar on Parentsquare. You can also reference the academic calendar one pager, marking key events such as no-school days and the first and last days of the school year.
Arrival and Dismissal
For safety reasons, K-4 scholars must always be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian, an authorized adult, or an authorized older sibling on the school’s pickup list. Grade 5 parents/guardians may give consent for their scholars to self-dismiss. Elementary school scholars may not travel to or from school in a taxicab, in a van with a driver, on the bus or subway, or on foot without a parent or guardian or authorized older sibling.
Authorized adults and siblings must be on the school’s pickup list and show a photo ID. To make any changes to the pickup list, a parent or guardian must contact the Main Office at least 24 hours in advance of a pickup.
Arrival
Parents, guardians, authorized adults, or authorized siblings must bring scholars to the arrival door at school. Scholars will wait in a line monitored by staff in order to enter the building. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and arrival ends at 7:50 a.m. During arrival, staff members will be available at the entrance for family support. Your scholar’s school will provide specific guidance around their procedures for late arrivals. If you are dropping off a scholar late, please walk them to the Main Office to pick up a late pass, and then walk them to their classroom to hand it to the teacher. Please reach out to your school’s Main Office with any questions.
Dismissal
We will dismiss at 4:20 p.m., except on Wednesdays, when scholars dismiss at 12:50 p.m. Upstairs dismissal will occur when a staff member needs to discuss any pressing safety, academic, or behavioral concerns from the day, or if you need to complete paperwork in the Main Office.
Late Pickup
Scholars who are not picked up 10 minutes after dismissal time will be considered late. Educators work hard and have families too. If late pickups become a pattern, the school’s leadership will contact you to schedule a meeting to discuss.
2025–2026 Doors Open, Arrival, and Dismissal Schedule
If a scholar needs to leave early for any reason, their parent/guardian must contact the Main Office in advance and provide the time that they will pick their scholar up and the reason for early dismissal.
Note: Arrival and dismissal times are subject to change during special events and activities, such as critical assessment days. This change may include making Wednesday a full day and other days half-days as needed. We will communicate changes with as much advance notice as possible.
Commitment to Play
At Success Academy, we view play as serious learning and a critical component of a scholar's day, fostering social-emotional skills, creativity, and a love of learning. Scholars engage in various forms of play including Blocks, Choice Time, Games, and Recess, all designed to build confidence, self-direction, and a well-rounded education. Playtime is sacred and never contingent on other academic tasks or behavior. We ensure ample time for play, with specific daily minimums for different grades, including outdoor recess regardless of weather, requiring appropriate attire.
Classroom Management
Success Academy elementary schools use a classroom management system called Smart Classroom Management to support scholars so that they independently follow directions and routines in order to maximize the time and attention focused on learning.
Each classroom uses a “stoplight,” color-coded management system. Every day, scholars start on green. Throughout the day, if scholars are not following instructions, their color may be moved down to yellow or even red. We keep parents regularly informed about behavioral challenges students face in school and we ask for your support.
Clubs, Teams, and Tutoring
Clubs and athletics allow scholars to pursue interests and passions at more advanced and competitive levels. ES clubs meet from 4:20-5:20 PM (or a required 60-minute block following dismissal) on M, T, TH, FR, and 1:00-4:00 PM on Wednesdays.
Club offerings and schedules may differ by school. Schools will communicate their club offerings and schedules with their scholars and families. See Scholar Talent and Enrichment for more information about clubs and teams.
Our knowledge-rich and immersive middle school program sets students up for success in both high school and college. Our curriculum encourages middle school scholars to think critically, develop and debate ideas, and support ideas with evidence. Our classes are hands-on and collaborative; we strive for mastery and for students to be able to autonomously do rich, intellectual work. We don't believe learning stops at the classroom doors, and we're committed to field studies in all grades to provide scholars with real-world experiences and opportunities.
Each middle school has a social-emotional learning (SEL) specialist to support scholars' growth and mental health. Scholars can also explore a variety of enriching electives that serve as critical outlets for creativity and self-expression, and that foster self-awareness and independence.

Arrival and Dismissal
As part of our focus on fostering independence in middle school, sixth- through eighth-grade scholars can arrive on their own and will be dismissed directly from their classrooms. Parents/guardians may also provide consent for their fifth-grader to self-dismiss. If a parent or guardian wants to either drop off or meet their child at the end of the day, they may do so, but students will still be dismissed from the classroom and parents are responsible for pickup. Our middle schools do not organize dismissal outside.
2025–2026 Doors Open, Arrival, and Dismissal Schedule
If a scholar needs to leave early for any reason, their parent/guardian must contact the Main Office in advance and provide the time that the scholar will leave and the reason for early dismissal. All scholars who leave early must sign out at the Main Office. If the scholar is being picked up by another adult, Success Academy will only release the scholar to those listed on the pickup list. Families can update their pickup list at families.successacademies.org.
Note: Arrival and dismissal times are subject to change during finals, external exam administration, and for special events and activities. These changes may include making Wednesday a full day and other days half-days as needed. We will communicate changes with as much advance notice as possible.
Recess
Just like math and science, recess is a critical part of a scholar’s day. It gives them a break and the opportunity to exercise and socialize with their peers. Even in the winter months, we do not stop outdoor play, including when it snows. Scholars love snow! Please make sure that your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather so that they can fully enjoy recess.
Clubs, Teams, and Tutoring
Clubs and athletics allow scholars to pursue interests and passions at more advanced and competitive levels. MS clubs meet from 4:00-5:00 PM (or a required 60-minute block following dismissal) on M, T, TH, FR, and 12:30-3:30 PM on Wednesdays.
Club offerings and schedules may differ by school. Some schools offer certain clubs or athletic programs before school, from 7:00-8:00 AM. Schools may also participate in the Scholar Talent Share program, which gives scholars the option to participate in up to two clubs. Schools will communicate their club offerings and schedules with their scholars and families. See Scholar Talent and Enrichment for more information about clubs and teams.
Success Academy also provides tutoring and small-group instruction after school (from 4:00-5:00 PM) for all scholars who need it.
Our goal is to prepare scholars to graduate from four-year colleges in four years and pursue a life of opportunity and personal fulfillment. Our K-8 program provides the critical foundation — core knowledge, academic skills, and work habits — for a sophisticated collegiate experience. A wide range of electives and clubs — as well as Advanced STEM programming and robust summer experiences — cultivate scholars’ curiosity, critical thinking, and skill in navigating the world around them.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through field studies, independent research projects, student leadership opportunities, and summer programs to expand horizons, enhance skills, and build confidence and character.

College Access and Preparedness
Success Academy HSLA offers a world-class College Access and Preparedness (CAP) program, providing unparalleled, free support including SAT tutoring, financial aid guidance, and individualized college selection strategies, ensuring our scholars stand out in a competitive landscape. The college application process formally begins in 11th grade, with mandatory participation in all CAP activities, including the three-week CAP Program after the last day of class in June for all rising seniors.
CAP Graduation Requirements
To graduate from HSLA, all students must meet specific academic and CAP requirements, including:
Applying to and enrolling at a four-year college.
Taking the SAT and earning a minimum score of 1050 to matriculate to senior year.
Parents providing required financial aid information to the SA Financial Aid Team.
College Selection & Application Requirements
Success Academy guides scholars through a structured college selection and application process, setting clear deadlines and requirements to ensure informed decisions and timely submissions.
SA will create a balanced college list of Reach, Match, Safety, and Super Safety schools. Scholars and families provide input, but SA finalizes the confirmed college list.
Scholars must rank their college list no later than November 15.
An appeals process is available, though approval is not guaranteed.
SA will only support applications to colleges on the confirmed SA College List.
All college applications must be submitted before November 15; no new applications will be considered after this date.
Scholars eligible for Early Decision (ED) and Early Action (EA) must follow SA-instituted deadlines, which may be earlier than November 15.
All college visits must be completed summer of junior year, and no later than September 15th of senior year.
Scholars and their families are required to submit all necessary financial aid documents by the last day of their junior year to ensure timely processing and eligibility for aid.
College Decisions & Commitments
Scholars must promptly report all college decisions, document their acceptances, and adhere to commitment deadlines to ensure a smooth and well-supported college enrollment process.
All decisions (acceptances, denials, deferrals, and waitlists) must be reported immediately.
Scholars must record themselves opening admissions decisions and send all acceptance videos to their CAP Associate.
Acceptance and Financial Aid Award Letters must be uploaded to student folders upon receipt.
Scholars must commit to their ED school within 48 hours of receiving financial aid or, if not admitted ED, commit to their chosen college within one week of their final award letter.
CAP Scholar and Family Expectations
Scholars and parents must respond to all CAP communications within 24 hours and meet all deadlines, including attendance at required webinars, workshops, and meetings, without exception. CAP staff follow the same response standard, and missed deadlines may result in consequences, including but not limited to:
Detention: Scholars missing CAP deadlines will be assigned detention until all deliverables meet the required standards.
Meetings with Senior Leaders and Parents: Parents and Senior Leaders will be notified of detention, and scholars must meet with Senior Leaders if deliverables are not submitted on time or meet the required quality. Continued issues will result in a meeting with parents, CAP staff, and a Senior Leader.
Suspension of Arts & Athletics Activities: Scholars will be suspended from all Arts & Athletics activities, including practices, competitions, performances, and dual enrollment coursework, until deliverables are submitted.
SAT Expectations
The SAT Program is also a major part of the High School Design at Success Academies. As an SA scholar you will take an SAT Course as part of your graduation requirements. Scholars will have SAT class 4 days a week. They will be required to take Saturday Practice exams and three Saturday Official Exams. Scholars will receive a grade for SAT, just like any other course.

Clubs and Organizations
Clubs and co-curriculars are critical to a scholar's engagement with school and leadership development, and they bolster college applications. Our clubs are an essential part of the school-day. Scholars are encouraged to follow their passions and interests to create clubs in areas that interest them with club advisors who will support their personal growth. See Scholar Talent and Enrichment for more information.
External Scholar Programming
External scholar programs, which include dual enrollment and summer experience, offer valuable external opportunities for students. These prestigious programs enhance college applications by providing exposure to college life, volunteering, college-level courses, service learning, and other enriching experiences. Program locations and durations vary. Participation in both dual enrollment and summer experience is by application, and accepted scholars must adhere to program policies and procedures.
