Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my collage was Sugarloaf, which then expanded to mountains in general, and the idea that guided my painting was my collage. The materials I used were acrylic paint and canvas. To create this artwork, I began by creating my collage, and once this was done, I put my canvas on top of a printed version of my collage to outline the different shapes. I then tried to paint the images that were in the background first, then the images on the midground second, and finished with the images on top. I think I spent 1-3 hours on each image, most of which was spent mixing the colors to try and match them to the collage. Some colors I ended up giving up on after spending 40-60 minutes on them, but I am relatively satisfied with the majority of the colors. I wish the lines were cleaner, so I may go back and fix those.Â
