Artist Statement

The idea behind my artwork was my cat, Bear. The materials I used were a 9'' x 12'' scratchboard, a scratchboard tool, a fiberglass brush, and a four-prong wire tool. I began this artwork by tracing the outline of my image onto the scratchboard. The first thing I drew/added detail to were the eyes, which I thought would give me an idea of the relative position of everything else. After that I added some detail to the ears, and the outside of the face for an even better idea of the proportions. I then added some shine and hair to the nose and around the nose. I found this part difficult because my cat is all black, so it was sort of hard to make it clear where the nose started and stopped. Once I had the most prominent features done, I worked on the whitest parts of his fur, then tried to "blend" it out.
