Realistic Self Portrait

Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my artwork was a self portrait of my face. The materials I used were graphite pencil and 9'x12' art paper. The process I did for this piece was to first, prepare. What I did for this was to take a picture of myself and print it, create the border around my paper, and finally grid both the blank paper and the printed picture. For the actual art itself, I started by drawing a light sketch of the visible features on my face, such as my jaw, eyes, and lips, and I made sure it was proportional to the placement on the printed picture. I then exentuated these features by shading, and brought out features such as my nose and hairline with shading. I have not yet finished this, but I will work on the highlights in my hair, as well as more shading around my face to add dimension and shape.
